Default Paint code 972

Ermine White, Can-Am, Polar White and Classic White, all are code #972. Am I correct that only the names have changed from 1968 to ‘72.

For the few here that have the original Corvette “White” paint or an early re-spray that was the correct White paint, what have you used for touch-ups?
Not talking about someone that has leftover paint from a respray or a collision repair. I’m looking for people who found a source for a close match to our White Corvettes. So far I have Identified at least 12 vendors or makers all making claims they are an exact match. I’ve tried some but I believe there must be something better than what I found so far.
If you White guys (no racism here) have something, please share.

Thanks,
Rich

Probably not. GM re-used the same exterior paint color code numbers for different colors from year to year. 1970 & 1971 had Bridgehampton Blue as color code #979. In 1972, color code #979 was Targa Blue...an entirely different color.
When matching paint to GM paint codes, one must include the color code number AND the model year for the vehicle. Otherwise, you may not know what color you are getting.

For sequential model years, I suspect all four of those 'white' colors are DIFFERENT hues. For the same color in an 'adjacent' model year, GM would have given that color the same name.

The name changed often, but Chevrolet used the same white paint for Corvettes from 1967 till somewhere around 84 or 85. The order code changed in 73 to 910, and to just 10 later, but it was always the same white paint, Ditzler number 8631. Back in the 80's the race team I crewed for always painted all of our cars Corvette white.

I thought so. Less than an hour ago I found the paint label showing the mix recipe for my 1969 Can Am White I painted in 1992. That paint supplier is gone so I re sprayed my 71 in 2006 with a mix from Sherwin Williams (the same formula) and the last Vette (a ‘72) was the second “Classic White” with the exact same formula from a Chevy Dealer’s paint supplier just over 2 years ago.

I’m still looking for all the guys here that have early C3’s in original White paint and if they ever used touch up.

Agreed. The following site gives GM color codes and paint manufacturer codes so one can cross reference between years and manufacturers:

Today I bought PPG Concept single stage paint to paint my 1969 Can-Am White. GM code 972. In Wesco's computer they show this a Classic White 1968 to 1972. However in an old Paper Catalogue it shows the same paint mix as Can-Am White. I think it is well documented as the same color with different names. However ERMINE WHITE is NOT the same Paint mix. I think this color is a warmer white and is left over from the C2 era. I also think it was used on other GM vehicles after the C2 era but not on Corvettes. ( 1969 Trans-Am ) Not sure where Polar White falls into this.

The only true way is to use the WA number for a cross reference to find how many different years and cars it was used on. Like Ermine White in 1960 and beyond WA2661 see below.

Ermine White 1960

https://www.corvettepaintcodes.com/

Find the WA code Then go to this site to find the years and car models it was used.
