Default 76 Corvette door handle

My 76 Corvette door handle has the droops and from my research it is a broken door handle spring. I searched and found several of the good parts sights are selling a door handle pop up spring helper. Has anyone here used it and does it work.

I used the spring helper. Worked for a few years and then it broke and jammed underneath the door handle which required leaving the window down to open the door from the inside. I managed to slip the broken piece out from under the door handle. Now my door works again but with a drooped handle. My advice is to live with the drooped handle or replace the door handle.

replacement is the only viable fix. the hinge pin is riveted in. you grind the end off and drive the pin out and find a homedepot spring that works and then you have to do some epoxy or soldering method the keep the hinge pin in place.

The springs are a good temporary fix, my temporary fix has lasted several years!

Save your money on those quick to fix, quick to break gizmos and do it right.

Look around on EBay for a drivers side handle assembly. Be leery of import stuff. The chrome will wear off soon. You will see a wide range in prices on EBay.
I found a original GM NOS drivers side handle, still in the bag, on EBay for less than $35. Quality chrome, perfect fit.
Sometimes a C3 owner passes away and leaves boxes & boxes of NOS parts behind for the family to discard / sell.

Inner door panel will have to come off. Not a horrible job but need small hands.

Replacing the handle is the only logical choice. When done, it’s done.
Beware the cheap knockoff handles do the same thing you have now. I can tell just looking at the cheap replacements - the reveal around the moving part is wider and many times doesn’t return up to the top. And of course the color and evenness of the chrome is off.
A word of advice, don’t drink too much caffeine before working on this replacement - it can be very frustrating if you have big hands!

Corvette Central part#283011L fit my driver side perfectly and looks great after 5yrs.($40). Tried helper spring first without success.
