78, I've rebuilt the control arms and will not be using rivets to secure the ball joints. I am using Moog parts.
The upper b joint has an additional part which looks like it would slide over the section which come up through the hole. However, this part will not slide down and sit flat, there is a lip which make the ID smaller. If I install it, the 3 spots on it for the bolts will bend down. Do I need this? I am not talking about the rubber dust cover.
That ball joint is installed incorrectly. It goes in through the top and that sheet metal piece goes on the bottom to hold the rubber boot up. I snapped a few pictures of my car. I hope that helps.
