Default High speed vibration on ‘68

On my ‘68 I get a really bad vibration at about 35 mph and I cant go any faster. Im not sure what it is. Everything under the car looks tight and the wheels are properly inflated.

The only thing I can possibly notice is that these two shims (circled) are not lined up the same. Are they both supposed to be the same?

So I figured it out. At some point I must have loosened the rear ujoint at the driveshaft even though I dont remember doing so. So the drive shaft was rattling around and then it threw an end cap. I bought a new u-joint and replaced the cap so I think it is good now. Ill take it for a drive in a few minutes and see.

Good catch. That could have gotten very bad. Glad you found it.

FWIW, the two "shims" are cam bolts to adjust the rear camber via the strut rods. Failing strut rod bushings can be a source of spooky handling (it will feel like your car has its own idea about where to steer, but the input is from the loose rear end). Heim-jointed strut rods are a great improvement if this is also a problem.

I'm glad you found that U-joint problem!

Im glad I did too but it was a stupid mistake. I had a list and must have missed checking that.

Major damage avoided. Humans make mistakes; glad yours didn't turn out bad.
The camber adjustments are rarely the same for both sides of the rear wheels. They are adjusted separately.
