Default 71 Shoulder Harness Will not Release

Drivers side shoulder harness is stuck/will not release. Removed the phillips screw but can not remove the plastic shroud for the belt mechanism. How does it come off-do not want to break it.

If you mean the interior trim panel part then there is also 2 screws that screw it to the quarter trim part... but they go in from behind (in other words the quarter trim needs to come off to get to them....)

On the verts I think it's actually part of the quarter trim by the looks of it

From my 72, I'm pretty sure the 71 was the same for the shoulder belts (???)

Might want to try tapping it with a wooden hammer handle or something going in from the back where it's open on the trim. it's a centrifugal spring/weight (I believe) so it might be just sticking

That plastic panel likely has another screw at the very bottom. Also, it is attached along the rear of the door opening with two brackets. The lower bracket/retainer has three horizontal screws, while the upper bracket has one vertical screw. Be careful with those four screws, they attach to anchors in the plastic panel.

Yes. Go EASY on those screws. If the threads are binding, the anchors will strip and it will be difficult to remove without some damage. You might want to put a little penetrant on them and let them soak for a day or two before trying to remove them.
