Default Spark plugs, fouled?

69 vette with 406 cb, 70 lt1 cam and intake, holley 600cfm

Delco-R45TS New sparks plugs roughly 400 miles ago, Are they maybe a little rich? I dont know much about how a spark plug should look, especially in older vehicles. I am using lucas octane booster, maybe it contributes to it?

this plug is #2 cylinder, i pulled the #4 and it looks the same.

They look good to me. They should be a tan color, which is what I see. Jerry

Glancing at some plug reading charts, it looks one or two notches too cold to me.

Thanks for the replies, i guess i forgot to mention I developed a slight missfire. I just checked ohmage of my wires and found that to be the main issue.

What type of ignition do you have? If you have points ignition, you might want to swap in a new condenser and clean/file the points. The condenser is a prime source of misfires when it starts to weaken/fail.

I agree with switching to NGK. I used to run different brands. NGK were the only plug I could track the car and not have to change the plugs after. NGK has excellent technical help too. If you call them they can help you find a plug appropriate for your car.

The other advice you received 7T1vette is something to consider. A new rotor and cap will be cheap. Also, I you have an ohm meter, check the resistance of you wires. 40-50 ohms of resistance per foot would mean they are still good.

Curious...You mean tetraethyl lead? Not sure where is could be found. Not to mention it is toxic

Another vote for NGK. Not sure what type of ignition you have, points or electronic, but some motors are also sensitive to spark plug gap clearances and can cause a misfire type symptom. Had this on a few motors. Looks like you are running a standard .035 gap. Correct?

Looks a lot like octane booster to me. Maybe try some Autolite 26's and better gas and they should look a lot better.

I actually just rebuilt my distributor back in may, new cap, rotor, went to pertronix, new coil. Only thing i didnt update were the wires which i just finished up. Dug myself in another hole after i retorqued my starter bolts and the ear on the starter broke. Always something.

Agree on the coloring being the booster doesnt hurt anything just a little tougher to read plugs
On the backside of the strap there should be a light colored mark, where is it located?

no I kept the shims in, i had to lower the starter to get the chrome plates off for the wires, thinking about buying a rebuilt delco from autozone. Have my original sent out and rebuilt later.
