major decision based of not enough info ... do the compression & leakdown tests ... it may well be something relatively simple such as leaking intake gaskets and/or bad-missing valve stem seals. You can R&R intake gasket & valve stem seals without pulling heads. But you cannot KNOW where you're really at until you do the tests. But, if ya really wanna pull & build motor then go for it; your car, time & $.

^^^this^^^ Yup ...as well as bad-missing valve stem seals. Either or both can & Do grossly foul plugs

Buy an OTC leakdown tester......perform a leak down test on all eight cylinders......
That amount of oil consumption will crop dust like crazy.......my money is on a leaky intake underneath.....a slow sucking consumption that will not always make for smoke.
Do not assume anything until you know......
