Having any special interest/collector vehicle, without a proper lockable home for it, may not be practical; at least not until later, when you have a proper home for it.

One way or another, doing special interest cars/bikes/boats/aircraft/toys costs money ...rent a nearby lockable space and learn to work on it yourself. I also have agreed-value Hagerty; but on right coast.

the collectors insurance doesn't insist on a garage so they don't have to pay for deteriorated paint. they insist on the garage so the homeowner's policy covers theft from your house. my recommendation to you is to sell the car. you don't know it well enough to avoid paying for repairs. you aren't around enough to use and appreciate it. you can't secure it well enough to not worry about it when you are on the road. revisit this addiction when you are in a better position to own a 40 year old car.

I suppose they pay when/if insured has no homeowner theft coverage/policy. The place is decrepit but paid for, carry no homeowner policy, but do carry "roscoe" ...w/ Hagerty; car's locked inside.

Sell it? Really? Come on, it's a nice '82. Here in CA. it will still need to be smgged, probably every year. It's a fun car to drive not exactly a prized collector's car. State Farm Insurance, a good car cover, and a decent neighborhood and you should be able to keep the car for years. Enjoy your new ride. And oh-yeah, welcome to the forum...

For the five or six days of rain you get down south, you could throw a plastic tarp over it on a rainy day and not worry.

Crider, If you really want to get SCREWED, fix it your self and the insurance company will pay you direct. They may even kiss you for your troubles!HOWEVER, THEY WILL ONLY PAY YOU BODYMANS WAGES, AND WITHOUT OVERHEAD OF PROFIT ON THE PARTS!
TAKE MY WORD FOR IT!

IF YOU SUBMIT A N ESTIMATE FROM A SHOP, THEY MAY PAY IT. BUTWHEN YOU SUBMIT A SUPPLEMENT, THEY WILL SEE THAT IT IS IN YOUR HOUSE AND THEN THE **** HITS THE FAN!

SEND IT OUT AND BE HAPPY FOR THE NEW PAINT JOB.
