Thank you that helps a lot.

i am thinking tell him 2500. and let him start at 5k and meet around 3500 3750... prices are up on these 78-ish cars, but over 10k has to be a very nice car. and paint can run the 10k value of these cars.

I watched a video about replacing the entire thing, but that's a big job, I just wonder if we could us a part of the new fender, then blend it in? This is all new territory here for me. The rest of the car of perfect.
I am now looking at other 78’s. But. Which cars can I bring in from outta state? I know YF5 will work. But I have seen others with different codes. They still have the smog pump visible. Do they allow older different smog codes into california registration wise? The reason I am looking at out of state cars is there are just a few here currently for sale.

It separated at the bonding strip. you CAN splice it; just do it factory-style. Ecklers parts. I commiserate! Do a good job and don't worry about NCRS! Cut all the damage away with a small air saw. leave 2" overlap to your new part and sneak up on the joint!

Get the AIM manual....shows all the parts strips, amount of epoxy etc.

Frankly, I would have bought that car myself!

cars do not have to pass cali smog codes if brought in from out of state. BUT your best bet is 75 and older. no emissions at all... so, you passed on the damaged one. there are quite a few people on here who would be happy to take on that repair. maybe post his sale ad as long as you are sure you don't want to mess with it.

Thew owner either had it towed or got the wheel back on and pushed into his garage. He would not let out a price and I did not offer one until I knew everything about it all. I think it will be easier for me buying a car that is together and runs. You say they don;t have to pass smog if brought in from outta state?

OK guys I moved onto another car. We have an agreed upon price the Seller has to get it smogged, but it has been raining. The car I picked is in perfect shape. Never ran in the rain, the under side look like it came off the Showroom floor I had to look really hard to find anything wrong with it. It has extremely low miles and has been methodically maintained over the years. It was more than I was wanting to pay but it is in far better condition. He should be able to get it smogged in the next few days. It is a California original. The only thing I can see wrong is the pace car logos on the door are not installed in the correct position. Seller said they were on the car when he bought it. No history of when it was put on. I am now considering if it is worth the money and effort to remove all that stuff polish the paint out and apply a new logo in the correct spot, or just leave it be as is. i am afraid the paint may be a different color under the decals. It still has the original tires and air filter. I plan on removing those and storing them, and put a fresh set of rubber on it. along with a new air filter. Thanks for all the advice. At least I got one now, or close to getting it.

Glad to hear you found a keeper.

Yes, the paint under the decals will not look exactly like the exposed finish.

Shoot some pics of the car and post!

lost track of the thread for a while. but yes cars brought into CA have to pass smog, but they have to pass federal, not CA smog standards and readings.
