VIN code oddity on 1978 model

What do you make of this VIN for a 1978: 1Z8748S438391 ?
According to Corvsport site the 5th character should designate which engine with an L or an X

No oddity at all. "CorvSport" is incorrect. The fitth character in this VIN indicates the car originally came from the factory with the optional L-82 motor.

The Black Book says the #4 in the fifth VIN position denotes the 220HP 350.

i believe 220 hp IS the L82

It is, I didn't think to check the option codes when I looked in the book.
The other engine options that year were 175 and 185 HP.

sleepchamber -- all of the resources I have come across have errors in them -- Corvsport, Corvette Black Book, CorvetteC3, and so on. Some are worse than others. Best to keep them all and check one against the other when researching questions.
