Default 1979 corvette dash lighting

Can you switch out 1895 bulbs to BA9S for more brightness- do they dim with light switch? Thanks

Cool car. Is that an Oyster interior?

I've switched every bulb in my 80, and most of the ones in my 79, to LEDs.

For the dash, I used warm white LEDs from SuperBrightLEDs.com. The result is both brighter, and somewhat dimmable. The indicator lights can also be changed to LEDs (from the same source). Just be sure to bench test the dash, or be prepared to reach behind and swap a few bases around, as the LEDs are sensitive to orientation, and goofy lamp bases can be inserted in either orientation on the flex circuit board.

I'm not familiar with the bulb numbers you listed. I used was called out on the SuperBrightLEDs website, which lets you search for specific car applications.

Here's my LED writeup for my 80. If you do nothing else, change out the dome light bulb.

Two of your dash lights are 1891 bulbs. New GE incandescent bulbs are much brighter than ones that have been in use for years. Their useful service life is over long before they burn out. LED bulbs are redesigned as often as iPhones; about every two years. Newer LED’s are not polarity dependent, have thermal resistors and work with dimmers. Best to have all the same types on the same dimmer circuit. Great educational videos on different led types at headlightrevolution.com.
Some people like very bright dash lights, but my night vision seems to work best with the dash gauges barely visible. I do love LED backup lights!
