They're the back up lights. I thought they were more too but the only time mine ('76 model) come on is when the trans is in reverse.

It might be helpful to note (as shown in this thread) that someone has done the 68-style bubble-lens conversion to your car. All of them are red, now.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-corvette.html

Typically, the inner lenses have white centers and prism reflector outer rings. And they light up when the car is in reverse.

On my 80, both inner and outer bulbs are wired in parallel, and I have 2-conductor 1157 LED bulbs in all 4 locations, giving me 4 brake lights and two turn signal lights. Perhaps that was the PO's intent. 68 C3s, (and later C4s and C5s), have separate backup lights. Short of going back to stock lenses, which you can get on eBay or reproductions from the vendors, some folks on this Forum have used white LEDs in a license plate frame. Here's my solution.

I need to remember that the cars being asked about may not necessarily be original.
Photos help a lot.

In your case, pudding, you may have any number of things going on. The wiring wasn't completed to make the inners work, or the after market wiring failed, or who knows.
It's time to take the lights out and see what you have in there.

I do like the idea of more lights on the back, something to consider for mine.

So do I. But I found that the bulb socket..... at least on my 71.... is integral to the bucket. So to swap my reverse lights for a functioning stop-tail-turn light, I had to replace the inner buckets with the same ones used on the outter lights.
