Default C3 console thread nuts.

Just putting my forward console and other back together. Rebuilt virtually everything, but I can't remember what threaded into these captured nuts on the underside front of the forward console,..anybody?

IIRC the outer sleeve for the kick panel vent doors goes there

Excellent. I was of the impression that I was missing a brace or something, it's been a while since disassembly and the exact memory was vague.

Default Great thread.

Thanks for the info. I'll just keep this thread going to get through my dash reassembly. It took a little over a year to repair the steering column and gauges. I'm getting old and my memory isn't all that great anymore. I'm determined to restore this Corvette, though. I looked into buying another forward console, but they are 12 weeks out for orders. I assume that means they are making them as ordered. So I effected a couple of repairs on my own. I used a little Plexi and some paper thin tin can material with epoxy. It turned out pretty good. I used to own a hobby shop and those fine detail abilities come in handy. I hunted around for the widget that fits between the forward dash and the E Brake console and only found a black one. I do have some matching color SEM paint, but I'll have to clean it with denatured alcohol and do a testy patch first for color. Now I've got to figure out how the lower gauge surround attached to the head of the forward console. It does have screw holes in the base of the flange and the console has small divots but that in no way connects anything.

Anyone had a little experience with this? The round holes in the console do not match up with the holes in the gauge flange, they do mach with the square davits, curious.

Should be two studs coming out of the dash piece
Also a metal "hoop" that goes under the console part and down onto the sides where the two smaller panels are kind of at your knee

some (myself included) use the long coupling nuts on the two studs to make it slightly easier to get at them rather than the stock ones

That does, look, like a handy bracket. I do not have one in the car. I did a box search and didn't uncover one. I'll think on it, I do remember that bracket, but it is not in the car. However, I did a great job rebuilding the "All" control. This IS an air-conditioned car.

Can't tell from your picture there but they are start life attached to the inside of the console but usually "go out on their own" after the console has been taken off a few times

Default Forward console reinforcement bracket

Big City Corvettes has them, new for 26.50 on ebay. I'm going to do one more search before I order, plus find the screws.

The inside of the console is empty. I vaguely remember the bracket but it was over a year ago in a different garage, sooo

I'm painfully aware of that feeling, and I'm in the same garage....

At least we like yellow. This is my third C3 but my favorite was a bright yellow 68 427 I had when I was in Eureka, California back in 96 /7.

Default Steering column "Banana Plug" ?

Well, this has just been loads of fun. My car had a collapsed steering column after the wreck, so I decided to replace the widget that holds it extended. This went without incident and while I was in there, I inspected the turn signal assembly, and it was pretty well-worn. I ordered a new one, thinking it would be relatively the same,...NOT. I reassembled the whole affair and then got down to the connector at the bottom of the column, and there was no way it was going to fit. I fished around some pictures and articles and decided what they had done was sent out a 1976 and later assembly. Rather than disassemble the entire project again, I looked into a connector to match. I found one and started studying the color codes etc. The new connector does fit, and I started to remove the wiring from the old connector. The colors all match accept for this one black wire, which has no corresponding match. I believe it is a horn wire, and you don't want to feed power to the horn, it works off of a negative ground. So, I'm addressing the crowd in general to see if anyone has had direct experience with this. Thanks for any help you may add.

The white is the old connector, the black the new.

This is the connector from under the dash.

This is the one black wire on the end of the old connector.

The color codes are pretty much matched, but there is no corresponding black wire in the new harness from the 76+ harness.

How the 76+ harness fits together with the lock.

I worked on the turn signal switch on my 69 this morning before work. The new switch comes with a newer or more common connector. I had to remove the connector and install the wires into the old black connector. I took pictures, but it didn't really matter, the wires are connected in order.

Not sure if this helps but for future reference for someone else
1969-1982 C3 Corvette wiring for the turn signals, hazard warning, brake lights, and horn followed the color coding that is charted below. Cornering lights were also included on 1980, 81, & 82 models. All wiring is routed up into the steering column and functions are actuated through the turn signal switch. The steering column wiring and the vehicle body harness wiring come together in a narrow long connector called the “harmonica connector”.

With the connector disconnected none of these wires should be grounded (tied to chassis). In fact I don't think that they should tie to ground regardless of turn signal position, or activation of the hazard switch.

Pretty sure that was a Jim Shea document

Default Not a match

OK, I went back and detailed this connector. I of course looked at all the material I have acquired as well. Perhaps I wasn't clear in my original post.
The wire colors on the white connected that runs down through the column are this, starting yellow, green, black, lite blue, dark blue, brown, purple, yellow, green and white.

The wire colors on the black connector that comes from under the dash are Black, pink and black, black, double lite blue, double dark blue, brown, purple, yellow, green and white.

As you can see, there are some color matches, but the last wire in the column connector is yellow and there is no corresponding black wire at the end of the connector. I pulled the black connector purposely from the old under dash black connector to change to the new connector when I realized there was a wire missing on the column, the black wire on the end.

I don't know....maybe the button for the ejector seat was originally mounted right next to the horn button in the original configuration. You just never know what those factory floor workers were smoking back in 1973. It appears my under dash connector has two extra wires. Interesting though, I'll keep at it.

Default Headlights

I'm at a critical juncture here. It appears I have the grand majority of parts for the headlight vacuum system. Unfortunately, they are old parts, original parts. I've found several electrical type replacements. I believe if I try to rejuvenate the vacuum systems it may cost as much or more than just buying the electrical, motor driven conversion. My 73 doesn't have the wiper door lifter system, so that simplifies it a bit.If you have experience in this matter, I would appreciate any advice you may lend.
