some (myself included) use the long coupling nuts on the two studs to make it slightly easier to get at them rather than the stock ones

Some, like me, have the studs on there and do not thread any nuts on there. Where those two assemblies come together is so tight, I found the tricky threading of the nuts unnecessary....
