Driver quality should still have a shine to it. How good it is is judged by how close you have to get to see flaws. Mine is 3 to 5 feet. Once you know where the flaws are it maybe 5 to 10 feet

I agree. Driver quality could be original lacquer or an early repaint. I cringe when I see a C3 that's been completely redone in base coat/clear coat that is flawless. That's not the way our cars were born. My truck looks like that, but then it's a 2021 Sierra and that's how it should look.

I cringe because they've lost their original look. They don't look like the C3's I've seen since I was in high school in 1968. With all the suspension mods, engine swaps, and updates, just build some kind of new kit car with bc/cc and all the bells and whistles. I've never seen a model T with bc/cc and hope I never will. Sorry if my opinion offends, but it's just my opinion.

In the NCRS a flawless paint job will cost you a crap load of points - I MAKE SURE to ask whether a customer is having a car judged in the NCRS or wants a flat car without surface texture?
Flat Cars look killer!

But the NCRS drills you for perfect reflections they want to see some mottle in the lines...

A driver quality to me means the car shows well from 5-10 feet and up close has typical flaws one would expect from original 50 year old paint or flaws from a newer re-paint. These flaws could be stress cracks, paint chips, orange peel or a not so shiny paint up close and personal. Nothing wrong with driver quality paint be it original or a BC/CC repaint it all depends on what you can live with.

I'm one of those guys that has spent big money on a paint job (1965) and will never do that again, NEVER!!!!! I would prep the car myself be it a Vette or a VW and paint it myself or have MACCO paint it. One time I bought a 69 that had been repainted in Red single stage and was a orange peel nightmare but after wet sanding and buffing it was a solid 5 footer.

I find that downright ridiculous. Old cars had flaws in the paintwork because they were mass produced and the factories needed to crank them out. If you're restoring one, there's no reason to half *** the paint deliberately (other than to please NCRS).

I'd gladly take a loss of points in this case.

Show is so nice youre literally afraid to drive it anywhere.
i dont consider nice original paint to be show anything...spent a grip on my paint and still drove it anytime. Todays paint (good quality paint) is pretty tough and holds up well.
Life is too short to worry about a stupid chip ,minor scratch etc. Cars are made to be driven.
Anytime Ive had damage one way or the other it always came back better than it was.

If one buys a brand new pricy car and can drive it anywhere why not an older car? Think about it
