Default Side Pipes with Shield

Hey Guys, I want to add side pipes to my ‘78 Anniversary Edition. I need a recommendation where to purchase. I’m running Hooker Headers with 3” out. TIA

Post some photos! Unless I really misunderstand, I don't think you'll be able to reuse your existing headers.

To run factory side pipes with headers you would need some custom exhaust work to hook up.

It seems that way. Although, I have headers on my '67 Corvette and the side pipes hooked right up. Maybe there isn't much demand for this type of setup....

That maybe the case. Although, I do have headers on my '67 Corvette and they hooked right up to new side pipes with no custom work......

The factory C3 muffler hook-up would have to be modified as the are made to connect to the factory exhaust manifold.

Ok. That’s what I was thinking. I have Hooker Headers which replaced the factory headers. Jegs has a connection pipe that runs from the header to side pipe. I may need to modify the connecting pipe somewhat.

Cheers!

You may consider Billy Boat stainless steel header/side pipes. The side pipes have a double layer, no shield needed.

This is why a photo always helps on this Forum. I didn't realize Hooker made shorty headers, if that's what you have. Are you going for the stock (1969 only) look, or the long-tube headers to side pipes look?

FWIW, these are Hooker headers, too (with a DIY side pipe extension).

The photos help. I have the long tube headers from Hooker. I’m looking at the 60” side pipes with a shield. The single tube
connection to the side pipes is what I’m interested in. 👍

No way will you be able to make that work......the collectors are way too far back.

I have a set of headers that I took of a customers car for a small block from a 69 that are designed for side pipes. They point directly out to the side of the car. If your interested I can try to post some pics.

Hedman Headers connected to factory sidepipes. Yes they have to be cut down, but not that much work for any muffler shop to connect them up.

probably better flowing than the type with ultra long primary tubes with the collectors at the front of the side pipes. like bikespace's in post 10. the other disadvantage of that type is the welds all rust and there is little you can do about the way they look.

I used Headman Ceramic coated,,( inside and out) and factory '69 sidepipes were easy to fit up. I used stainless pipes and flex pipes to connect... ( pix if ya want,&#129335
