Another great thing i found here on coft, for working under the dash, with some mods it works great.
Again, not my original idea, really cuts down on back pain.
my 10 min moving blanket $34.99 second one just pay shipping!
i cut the front so as to not lay over hood and velcro.. reality only need one velcro the male side will grab fine to keep together.
layed on hood and felt hood lines and added 3 inches on sides..YMMV on blanket size

I really like the Velcro fastener method, it is hard getting it over the hood when its fully opened, great idea.

I just happened to be in GOODWILL and spotted BABY BLANKETS! Remembered years ago using those (left over from my kids) as fender covers.
went to HOBBY LOBBY next door to Goodwill and bought a couple yards of fake leather (vinyl) for about $3.00 a yard.
went home, folded the baby blanket (checked first for baby poop or milk puke) over once and clipped the vinyl covering to it. This way I can Re fold the blanket about four times to be sure it’s clean and clip the whole thing to the fenders along the hood gutter. Works perfect and only cost about $6.00 total each.
i also previously made a shop dolly to store and move my TEE tops around. So when I’m not using the fender covers I just drape them over the TEE tops to keep them clean and hide and protect the TEE TOPS.
(That’s not fender covers on the tops now, just foam.)

self adhesive..but only use one as it wont hold when seperating.
i will glue it. But should be sewn or ironed..its not holding much . But want it to stay if you wash it.
Attention C3 owners.
Are you tired of dropping tools and paint-chipping your fenders?
Are you tired of belt buckles scratching your paint?

No. The ad is a spoof. Wishing someone would make / sell those things.
However, what a great opportunity for someone with a heavy duty sewing machine able to handle commercial grade extra thick materials.
Needs to be a little longer up the windshield. A little longer over the nose piece. And maybe some type of flame resistance with fuel, etc.
And sewn in divided pockets on the sides to hold little parts or tools.

I have a very nasty habit of using my cars' cowls, hood lips, and fender tops below the windshields for tool, nut & bolt, and part holding surfaces. Inspired by interpon's post above, here's my proof of concept using a Harbor Freight $10 moving blanket. If I actually use it and it works well, I may buy a better quality blanket and do it again. I'll modify this pattern for my '72 since it has a different hood shape cutout. My "upgrade" to interpon's idea is to incorporate flaps that hang over the inner fenders and forward hood opening. I felt this may keep the blanket better positioned, especially in a breeze or when the engine's running.
I like the moving blanket idea. I bought two Aramark fender covers when I was a tech. They're about 3/16 think and a felt like material. They wash well and stay on the fender well.
