I have several black 2x5 footers I drape over both fenders and 1 along the back over the cowl, windshield.
They were 10 bucks apiece. Been using them forever. When its time to replace them they make great tool box
drawer liners.
Moving blanket from Harbor Freight cut out for the hood, works great.
I like this idea and it's pennies compared to other covers. Did you have to bind the inside cut edges?
My 35 year old NCRS padded vinyl covers lost their padding a while back and the foam I tried fixing them with won't stick well.
I use bathroom rugs. It’s rubbery on the side on the paint so it doesn’t slip around. Then the carpet side keeps the tools from rolling around and off the fender.
it is not however brake fluid proof as I unfortunately discovered. Fluid will pass through it to some degree.

I use bath towels with the binder clips to hold them to the fender lip. They work great and easy to launder. I threw away all my old fender blankets, too easy to get things embedded in the under side that will scratch the paint.
And be sure to keep whatever cover you use very clean underneath, and be real strategic when you set it on & pull it off (pull straight off). run a towel over the underside periodically and don't get in a hurry removing it ....in the off-chance some grit happened to get on the backside or was picked up off the tire, unbeknownst to you. So, yeah, ..keep the underside of it clean and you'll be in good shape.

I can not take credit entirely for this, about 3 years ago some guy here on coft had something close to this.
The other great thing i found on coft was the folding lawn chair so you could lay down to work under the dash, will find that picture later.
