The old girl is spinning her magic! 52 days ago the only thing that worked on her was the paint. 6+ years dead. Laying in a defunct body shop. Had to be flat bed delivered.
Bought it for my all American 17yr old son. Good grades, respectful, kind and thoughtful.
He also signed Illinois National Guard’s 6 yr program to get a free ride to college.
We bent every wrench together. Brought the old girl back to life. She is now returning the gift. Today she growled on to the army reserve center. Delivering my son to his second weekend of duty training. Yep, turned heads that really matter. Seems son also got won the first Sargent Award. Allowing both to leave the base full of Glory and Pride!
needless to say! I might be the proudest parent! Under Federal protection. A simple metal of achievement.
Congratulations to you both, that's quite an accomplishment on all aspects! I'm sure you both will cherish these memories for many years to come.
My son helped me on my 72 some, but not to the extent yours did. I think deep down a lot of us Dad's buy these cars as an attempt for our children to help in the restoration/ upkeep process. I know that was my intent.
I'm moving him into his dorm on Tuesday, which is our Vettes 51st birthday / build date.
I got this text today after his first day of school and car. I upped the insurance to full coverage.
Now that it runs! It’s being insured as low mileage antique. seems they needed pictures to set a value.so I sent the kid. Here is his text after he went.
You are lucky that I am not a spoiled child because my constant urge to gun it down every block is stopped by me remembering how bad the insurance already is I understand how so many sports car drivers get pulled over now.
This is what these cars are all about. The memories that they create. It might be different for each one of us, but it is what it’s all about. Congrats to your son most of all and to Resurrecting the car!
We are new to this Corvette cult. It must be a cult. Everywhere she goes, she inspires happiness. It’s very odd! Smiles waves comments! My Son made a splash at school with her. He goes to a parking deck one night to a home brew car show. The Wienerschnitzel and rice burner crowd all turned their heads in appreciation. The boy loves the throaty rumble between the decks. They loved when he kicked her hard in the turns. Seems that posi traction makes a difference! The next day a guy called and offered 3g more than we have in. I can only guess he got bewitched. There is something magic and owning a Corvette. it seems the older the better.
my kid has figured out how to slam shift first through third. You and I might call it break torquing. He calls it grinding! The old girl seems to smile when she pushed. All this Dad can see is more replacement parts! I guess it’s this cults collection plate.
Hey some people throw money into hole in the water. Even this old 65 yr old guy has to admit he is sucked into this cult! I feel the kick and hear her throaty rumble days after I was allowed to drive her! Never really drove a small block. Man do they come to life fast. Not like my old 2bbl fords and 383s. It’s damn near a drug addiction!
I love the tiny side view mirrors. Guess they don’t matter when we’re that far in front of traffic? Should she have an inside rear view mirror? My triumph TR-4 had mirrors on the fenders. Rally mirrors. Do Corvettes wear them? I suppose I’ll notice the flashing police lights! Really he and I are pretty calm drivers. But, it just takes once!
