I am trying to figure out where and how the air vent(s) control cables are anchored to the center console on a 1973 Corvette without A/C. I have the assembly drawings and i have several tech manuals but nothing i have gets into that detail. The cables have a plastic tab with a hole in it for anchoring it somewhere before it gets attached to the wheel mechanism that opens the vent (s) but i don't know where that tab attaches or how it attaches. Anyone out there that has direct knowledge about this or that can direct me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. HAPPY NEW YEAR Ya'll!
post 17 looks like the temperature control cable. If the op is referring to the two cables which go to the kick panel vents, the plastic tabs fasten to the console, underside near the front. I will look for a picture if needed.
Is this a picture of the underside of a '73 center console? Mine does not have those metal brackets with the insert riveted into the underside of the console. There are two holes there but no evidence on threads in them and they are different sizes?
The 72-76 consoles should be all the same, 71 and earlier had the spot for the fiber optics so they are different, 77 was totally different
This was my old 72 console where I repaired the corners for the shifter plate, you can see the brackets on it.
Can you post of picture of your console in that area

now that i'm looking closely, the second picture may be telling me that this is a reproduction console???? maybe i'm just supposed to use small self tapping screws into those 2 holes?
Yeah that's not looking like a stock anything to me.
I'd guess they were using a self tapping screw right into those holes. I'd triple, quadruple check the depth, don't need to find out when you flip it back over

thanks man.............my question is answered , now to just solve the problem. I will use a depth mic on the holes and be sure not to poke through the other side
EC products has a website and I see consoles, maybe if you contact them they have instructions or a hardware available

There should also be a metal brace at the front of the console, it's riveted to those two hole what at the front in your picture, that's what actually supports the front of the console, which is what supports the center gauge cluster. Important piece
You can see it in the image I posted above
