Hey guys new here, I have a 1976 with a bad engine. A shop quoted me $1500 for the engine $1500 for labor after I had it towed he raised it another $500. He just called me and said its going to be an extra $1500 because he didn't know its a manual transmission and its way more work because now he has to remove it. Let me know your thoughts and should I just take it out of there before it gets worse? And is there any difference between swapping the motor with a automatic or manual transmission?

What engine are they putting in ? miles ? what did it come out of ? Can the orig "BAD" motor be rebuilt ? If not, Maybe think about a new crate engine with a warranty ???
Hes putting in a 350 Engine with 60k miles. The original cannot be rebuilt. Im already losing alot of money on the car as is just wanted to get her running again to sell it. Originally it was $1500 for the motor $1500 for the labor

yes, orig motor is better.
the loss from non running offsets 5k you were quoted
Excellent point. If you are spending 5k on getting it running with what is likely another crappy ragged out engine, I would rather buy it cheap and I, as buyer, would put the 5k into a new engine that I wanted, stock 350, 383, LS, etc.
Anyone know what I could sell it for everything else on the car is fine id say the paint is pretty bad a 6/10 but the interior is really really nice done up not to long ago main issue is its also been sitting for 2 years
compression test
& leak down test should give a good idea of it's condition, or take everyone's opinions & guesses and your own since we have no clue
as to the condition
