Can somebody please tell me is there something that goes around this rear window gap? I assume there is some thing, but can somebody take a picture of what it might look like. Thank you. It’s a 1977 Corvette. Looks like it’s missing some thing weatherstripping?
I have a 77.....and there is nothing to fill that gap. IMO.....thats the way Chevy built it. It doesn't go anywhere.....the seal is between the glass and the frame.

are you sure about that because it looks really should have something there. I mean there’s square slots they are like some kind of all the weatherstripping would go there but I don’t know can you take a picture of yours to
I to have a 77. Sorry Mate, that's the way GM built it! **** poor fit and finish. The auto magazines of the day just slayed the Corvette for it's extremely poor fit and finish.
Sorry you were expecting better.
On my car I used some Harley Davidson saddlebag weatherstrip to fill the gaps. Looks HEAPS better. But is NOT stock. I'll see if I can get a pic, I know I posted it on here awhile back.
Factory stock.
With saddle bag lid weather strip.
How do I know it's factory stock above? Ask me how long I've owned this 77. We have grown old together my friend.
I think it's like that because 68-72's had the removable rear window, and it's frame filled the space nicely. After dropping the removable window, it probably would have taken a major redesign of the birdcage/halo/rear window structure to eliminate the cap, which GM probably couldn't justify the expense for at the time, on such a low volume car. The mid 70's were a tough time for US automakers, between the huge barrage of new safety and emission regulations they were dealing with, a poor US economy and demand switching to economy cars due to the Arab oil embargo, there wasn't much engineering money left over for unnecessary changes.

well, you got that right. Real **** poor. I can’t believe that they would do something like that but whatever. If you can send me some pictures that would be great. Thank you.
( I also have a '77)
Is that sound system hanging from the rear deck?
Just guessing, things are shifting or dropping because of the add-on speaker system.
How much do those speaker magnets weigh?

no, the sound system is not hanging from the rear deck. I bought the Corvette speaker boxes that mount on the wheel wells in the back and in the center is that subwoofer which is not mounted on the car it’s just sits there.
well, they better look good for 2006. But for my 77 it should’ve never left the assembly line looking like that. **** POOR
Have you seen the front and rear rubber bumpers on your car? They are **** poor as well. Its just the way it was.......and it all can be fixed. I don't dwell on bashing Chevy for building the car they did.......Corvettes have always been affordable to the average guy.....and I love the car....even with its flaws. If it bothers you....fix it. Chevy doesn't care about your opinion of a 1977 Corvette. Its an American Icon.......flaws or not.

you’re right about that Chevy doesn’t care. I’m just trying to figure out what to put in there. I get some kind of weatherstripping. I mean it’s even got square slots there too thinking I’m sure they were going to put something in there. I thought I was just missing something other than that I love the car.
The early C3 Corvettes has a removeable rear window. Those square openings were there to accomodate some of the hardware used. And just like many other things, they did not change the production molds after they ceased providing a removeable rear window.......which conveniently works well if a person wanted to incorporate a removeable rear window in the later models. I painted that area that you can see flat black, and it just goes away visually in my car.....although I have a black interior.
Gary,
I am not 100% sure your inside window molding is original. Something looks "off" in the corners of the trim. And my '77 does not have the tabs.
I find it hard to believe it left the factory like that. Somethings been worked on by somebody with improper tools and skills.
A lot can happen in 46 yrs. Perhaps somebody removed the body off the frame, or somebody installed a non OEM rear window.
Who knows !
