Default 16" / 17" / or 18" wheels

New to me 68
I see lots of talk on back space and off set on 15" rims but little to nothing on 16/17/18. My ultimate goal (I think) is for silver spoke Torque Thrust II with red line tires. I have experienced the problems with 15" TT II not clearing the brake caliber and using spacers. After that is the search for longer lug nuts. Is that also a problem with 16/17/18 diameters? Anyone with the part numbers for the TT II and tire sizes that work would be greatly appreciated.

4" backspace is common (11mm off-set) and will clear the stock suspension. The E-brake cable bracket on the trailing arm is the first problem on the 15" followed typically by the spring tip
The TT2 have a curved spoke that helps clear the calipers, a rim with a straight back spoke and 4" BS will probably hit.
Not very much selection for 16" tires these days. Performance 15" tires are getting thin as well
Personally I think the 18" rims end up with too low of a profile tire for a C3 unless it's lowered a fair amount but that's a personal opinion
4.5" backspace has got to be getting pretty close to running into stuff. I run a 235/55 tire (10" wide at the bulge) With a re-positioned parking brake bracket there's about 1-1/4 room from the tire to the trailing arm, with the stock bracket location that's probably closer to 1/2 so the 4.5 backspace would be really really close

Check this thread for the different tires people are using

17" TT2 with 4" BS, clearance to the caliper at the spoke, notice the shape of the back of the spoke.

The backspace will not affect that clearance, the tire gets closer to the trailing arm, spring, etc

69 is Torq thrust D made to fit disk calipers with no spacers, longer studs or special lugs, direct bolt on 15x8.5 with 3.75 backspace VN105 1055861 part number

The 64 is 17x8 with 4" backapace torq thrust II and will also clear calipers

Check tire availability before you buy wheels. 16" is dead. 17" is headed that way.

This is dead on. I said this over a decade ago when there was still a good selection of 17" tires and folks laughed at me. Currently, there are only a fraction of 17" tire options, and most of them are of the A/S variety - Summer only in 17" is slim pickins.

78 with American Racing TT II’s 18x8”, 4” backspace, Continental Extreme Contact 255/45/18. Lowered 1” with Hyperco dual-rate and Vansteel 360 springs. Zero mods needed. Used TT II’s for looks and better handling with shorted sidewalls. Tires selected for good ratings and relatively lighter weight. Marked improvement over OEM aluminum rims with Cooper Cobra tires.
