Default Master cylinder cover

In the C3 production run was there any changes in the master cylinder covers size? I bought a chrome one for my 77 and it is smaller in size than the stock. was the master cylinders built smaller in size in early production?

No. The aftermarket lid is a mismatch between what the USA ordered from China and what was actually shipped.
Even the chrome bails don't fit correctly either.

What you can do is, install your old original lid on the MC, then place the chrome unit over that w/o a gasket of course. I have done that for several years and that shows how oversized my chrome unit was. Its way too big to seal but works for bling. Then figure out which bails to use for a tight fit.

All 67-82 Corvette master cylinders were the same size. There were a couple changes made to the markings on the stock Delco covers, but all the covers were also the same size, and were interchangeable. Many other late 60's early 70's GM cars also used the same basic master cylinder.

To eliminate this problem toss your lid & order chrome cover part # 192323 from Corvette Central.
It's a high quality cover & the bails fit perfect. Not cheap....$45 bucks. But you get what you pay for...

FWIW i purchased and installed a new MC from ZIP a coupe months ago. after first drive i check it and brake juice is running down the sides of the MC. played around with it and i could not get it to stop leaking every time i drove the car. called ZIP and they sent me out another lid with bails at no charge - great cust service - but it looked exactly the same at what came with the MC. I didn't even bother to put it on. probably will send the lid back to them. with my old lid on the new MC it does not leak so i have been using the 35yr old lid with the new MC.
