Fuel pump, remove and replace gasket
Leaking oil from my fuel pump on my 1969.
I done it in the past, but I forget....
Is there one gasket? Or a gasket for the fuel pump and a plate the holds in the rod?
Getting old sucks when the memory goes.

When I replace fuel pumps I use a gasket plus (always) and Permatex Ultra Copper

Permatex ultra black works good. Ultra copper is an exhaust high temp rtv.

Just did mine. Very light coating of ultra black on both sides of the gasket, let it set up for a bit, then install the plate. Same for the fuel pump.

Is there a rod that comes out? I think it must run up to the camshaft.
I did this years and years ago. Is the rod easy to re-install?

yes the fuel pump pushrod goes up to the camshaft.
on a small block, there is a bolt in the front of the engine you can remove, and install a longer bolt to hold the pushrod up, makes for easy R&R of the fuel pump.

Easy way to hold the rod up for install is grease guys. Lube up the rod and just push it up out of the way. The grease will hold it for you

OK, this wound up being very helpful.
As social tom mentioned, you can just put some grease in there to hold it. But I never knew there was a bolt in the front of the block to hold it as Tiger Joe mentioned. A YouTube video showed it. Interesting!!!
So Went to the car to see how tough it was to get to the bolt as most of the video were engine without hoses
Guess what……There was no bolt there. My assumption is that is may have been a tiny leak when street driving. But tracking the car made a mess.
Going to clean the area up and take a look.
