I am going to replace my old fuel filter (pics below). Looks very old and dirty. Two questions:
1. I know the old rubber hoses Pump to Carb were 3/8th In. Would it be safe to assume the braided steel is the exact same fit? I cannot see any markings identifying the size of the filter.
2. Is this filter a slip on filter? or Do I need to use a wrench to remove/install?
JEGS has a filter that I think is a good fit for my application: Part Number: 555-15041
There are several things going on,,, looks to me it’s still rubber hoses, just a braided cover on some of it.
I would replace all the line from pump to carb with new. Steel OR rubber, your preference. If you want an inline filter, PLEASE DO NOT use the same style you now have. I recommend a metal container for inline filters, especially any place in the engine bay.

3/8 line is fine. And, yes, wrenches required…
Great info! I would like to go for another steel line.
Do you have any suggestions as to who or where I could get a steel fuel line/metal filter for it? Most of the ones I found on Holly’s website and JEGS were like 4 feet of line, and I don’t need that much lol.
BTW it is the stock 4bbl quadrajet carb on it.

Summit raceing has many options, not too expensive.
Honestly,, a lawn tractor metal fuel filter w/ 3/8" ends would work,, found at hardware stores.
.
Here's one,,,
Get rid of that glass filter......that one has a 1/8" fitting in it......take it out and look at how small the I.D. is......

Agreed!! I’ve never changed out a fuel filter/replaced fuel lines before.
would it be possible to keep the existing line and just replace the filter with a metal one at the same spot? (Maybe the K&N filter from the above post?)
if your fuel tank has that much junk in it that you need a filter just replace the tank. scrap any idea of a fuel filter and use a stock oem steel line on the pressure side of the pump

Only if you cut the fittings off....the fittings are way too small.....
Hop on inline tube and get the correct line for your car....quit playing around with that bullshit.....looks like you still have a Q-Jet.....the filter is in the carb.....just get the right line....screw it on...

Your car does not need that silly (and dangerous) in-line filter. Get rid of it, install the stock steel fuel line to eliminate that horrible rubber fuel hose, and simply change the stock filter in the carb. $5.
