Another interesting tidbit is that the c3 was code named "Opel"....So now we know where the Opel GT came from...
Opel, or more correctly Project Opel, was the original code name GM Engineering used for the 1953 Corvette while it was being developed, not the C3 Corvette.

White with blue were the international racing colors assigned to the US, though by the mid 60's most racing teams had begun to abandon the use of the international colors. Still it's quite likely why Garner chose those colors for most** of his early race cars. After all, he did name his race team "American International Racing" (AIR).
** While his Corvettes were painted blue with white stripes, the Lola T-70 his team raced at Daytona & Sebring in 69 was all blue with a red, white & blue stripe that contained the "AIR" logo, painted across the nose. In 69 his team entered a fleet of factory backed AMC Rambler SC/Ramblers in the Baja off-road races so they were painted in AMC's typical racing paint scheme for that time, the red, white & blue wrapped around the cars.

Yes....I misspoke...great catch...kudos...
I think Opel got their inspiration from the Baldwin GT...as well as "Project Opel" for their name.
