Do they make something to prevent leaves from getting down between the fender and the body via the wiper box? When I removed the fenders off of my '72, I found all this debris at the bottom and would like to prevent it. Not sure I'm using the right term when searching for some sort of screening.
I have one, on the passengers side where the blower motor is. And it's plastic, and I'm realitivly certain it's factory original. My car is a 77 model.
Looks like 73 up had plastic screens?..does not screen that well..but large items. My 79 has screens on both sides for some reason.
Not familiar with 72 but i would place coarse filter material at intake area. Doesn’t have to be pretty but stable enough to not get sucked in but very coarse to stop large materials. Still better than a plastic screen 😂
maybe cheap house air filter and cut out media..or even paint filter material and ball it into in.
i would stay coarse and easily removed, replaced, installed..
Not sure how ne of these would fit Make your own? Like oem style

My '72 ain't got nothin' there except two big, hungry, gaping maws. I know I've lost at least a distributor spring and a wiper door bushing down there. I even tried to see what has been lost over the last 50 years with a borescope a few weeks back. Lots of organics, spotted a bushing, but not much else. I've been lucky so far and would hate to lose a socket or such over the edge - what a sickening sound that would be.
I like the idea of stuffing that non-woven air filter material just over the waterfall edge. It's open enough to easily allow water to drain but would catch everything else.
I got some stainless screen from McMaster Carr, cut & bent to fit. Even with the factory plastic screens on my 78 there are large holes for leaves & debris to fall down in the cavity. On the passenger side that stuff can get into the evaporator and cut airflow. Painted the screens black and held in place with seam sealer.
Right now I've got 2 towel stuck in mine but that's only because I've pulled the wiper door out and know how those bolts like to escape down the abyss

As I'm working on cleaning up my wiper trough, this thread caught my eye and I got curious... so out came the inspection camera. Was hoping for something worthwhile but found dried out acorns on the driver's side and pine needles and maybe a critter's skeleton or something along those lines on the passenger side. I duct taped a piece of semi-rigid tubing to the shop vac hose and cleaned them up.
Driver's side Passenger's side
Nope, didn't reset the date/time...
