I did use east coast auto electric, I can't get to their website so I dont know if they exist anymore. I also needed a quick replacement one weekend and bough t a cheap Proform starter...its actually still working great...kind of a surprise since they are cheap chinese makes... I did use a GM one with the bowtie on it but sent it back becasue it only engaged about a quarter of the flywheel gear...whatever you buy make usre that when it is extended it engages atleast 3/4 of the flyhweel gear
Let’s hit the brakes for a sec… does the solenoid click when trying to crank it over… if 12V is at that terminal (may be more like 9-10V) & no click, there’s evidence of bad solenoid.
Take it a step further… battery cable/connections… check voltage at the starter in the crank position, (or use a Load Pro on your DVOM) & see what the loaded voltage is…

Well yes, you need to measure the lash to see if it needs shimming provided the leads are on correctly. You can go thr trial and error route and put one shim in and see if it relieves the issue, then try 2. Measuring is always better for less wear but its already making noise so its best to get it to stop
