I find the RAM clutch in my car has a much lighter pedal than the factory clutch had. As per the size that fit my 77 3 years ago I didn't have any issues getting one.
I put a LUK clutch behind my rebuilt L36 in 2009 and it has been handling 505 torque just fine. Pedal effort is minimal and no vibration. I don't dump it too often, nor shift without lifting like we used to do back in the day. We did make sure the flywheel was surfaced and the bell housing centered with a dial indicator. Is there some reason why not to use them? Looking for the receipt, but seem to remember not expensive...$125 or so?
The LUK 11" HD clutch I just bought was $90 including the alignment tool, throwout bearing, pressure plate, disk, and the pilot bushing.
Downside - The throwout bearings they supply now come with a plastic collar for the fork where they used to be all metal, and the pilot bushing they include is magnetic so I don't use either of those. Otherwise, it is a high quality set.
No complaints about the McLeod Super Street Pro in my '80. Can't comment on pedal effort compared to stock, but the SSP's effort is WAY less than whatever off-brand parts store special was in the car when I replaced it.
[QUOTE=69L88;1607841881][QUOTE=stingr69;1607841775]Just bought a McLeod Street Pro from SST. They are having a "scratch and dent" sale on previously returned but still good clutches. They will have scratches in the paint or maybe witness marks from being bolted on. It was worth it for me as I got $100 off regular price. Should be here in a day or two.
Makes one wonder why they have so many returned “good” clutches that they need to have such a sale.
McLeod Street Pro clutch assembly showed up today with these paint scratches as described but never used or even bolted on. I am willing to accept that cosmetic defect especially when it only cost $140. McLeod is same owners as Silversport Transmission so I bet more than a few clutches are ordered the wrong size, or whatever. If they have one available in your size you might want to consider it.
I can state for a fact the 3oo hp model will have the same pedal feel as the 550 hp model
Agreed, McLeod says the pressure plate is 2400 pounds for that line and only the disc material changes. The street level differs from the street pro in that the street pro has metal backing to handle more horsepower. Should be about right for a stock LT-1
