Connecting more items on my 1971 coupe, years long build. Checked the AIM and the color wiring diagram. Cant find this Purple wire with Black tracer, not sure what it connects to. Its in the engine harness next to the Horn Relay wiring. Any ideas?
The wire looks pink with a black tracer to me. Don't know about a 71, but in 69 there is a Pink/Black that connects to the Horn Relay and Key Warning Buzzer that goes through the Bulkhead Connector and then to the Steering Column to the Key Warning Switch.
It's Pink with Black all the way to the switch.
Sorry, Yes, brand new harness from Lectric Limited.
Did you check the Lectric Limited harness/plug diagram that came with the wiring? I found their diagram was pretty helpful in doing an engine & forward harness on my '72 - and still refer to it when forum questions come up.

Yeah, I would reach out to them. The pink/black wire or purple/black wire (which ever it is) does not exist in the engine bay on any C3 Corvette diagram I have. I checked the 71, 72,73 and the 69 for fun. Didnt find it anywhere in the engine bay on any of those diagrams.
Id love to know what their response is

The Pink wire with Black tracer is for the key warning buzzer. It connects to the Horn Relay Buzzer at position 4.
The Red wire connects to position 1 = Battery
The Green wire connects to position 3 = to horns
The Black wire connects to position 2 = horn switch ground
Yeah, my 71 AIM, 71 Lectric Limited diagram and even a color 69 diagram ALL show a #20 P/B wire going from the Horn Relay to the firwall connector and on to the steering column connector. I do believe it is for the key buzzer. Doc Rebuild's 71 color diagram also shows that wire with the same connector on the end that your photo shows. They label that wire as a #20 Pink wire with Black stripe.
I like the 71 Lectric Limited diagram, but it's not 100% error free. It shows a #10 Red wire at the #2 terminal of the alternator going to the horn relay, while my AIM shows that wire as a #16 B/W and that's what is in the harness they sent me. Might have been a mid-year production change but the old adage "Trust, but Verify" applies...
Here's a link to a photo of that wire going to the horn relay (from an earlier model year car with external regulator):
