Default Need help with fuel system

Long story short is that one day my ‘78 refused to start, after troubleshooting and finding the engine was fuel starved I was suggested to clean my fuel sock in the tank. Today I opened up the tank and pulled out the sending unit and the sock looked completely clean. I’m gonna replace the hoses connecting to the sending unit and to the fuel pump, but I don’t know where to continue diagnosing my fuel issue.
I’m confident the engine and carb are not the issues because the lines are dry of fuel and the pump is new (I replaced it myself).

I feel like I’m missing something and any help would be appreciated.

I'm not thinking that sock should be black. None the less. You can pull fuel through it just fine?
You can blow through all of your lines just fine?
Your certain the fuel pump pushrod is correctly installed? You are certain the pushrod goes in and out as you rotate the engine?
The new fuel pump is actually good?

If the main fuel and return lines are disconnected at the tank and the fuel pump wrap a shop cloth around one end and blow high pressure air thru the other end of the main line and the return line to see if debris flies out or if it very clogged.
Reconnect the main lines and disconnect the main fuel line from the carb itself.
use a 1 qt, clear container to catch fuel coming thru the main line...crank the engine fior abut 15 seconds to make ssure plenty of clean fuel is squirting into the container.

KEEP A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WITH YOU!!!!

Let us know what happens.

im gonna buy an air compressor soon so i can do those tests to see if i have restrictions and stuff, and also just do a soap/water wash of the sock just in case because my lungs ain’t strong enough to push air through the sock.

but im certain that the fuel pump was installed correctly because after cranking it, the fuel line connected to it collapsed under vacuum, so it must have been working, right?
