Default '75 Driveshaft: clocking alignment

The rear end is out of my 75, but I forgot to mark the yoke in relation to the driveshaft. I have heard these have to go back just like they came off because of balancing. Is there anyway I can make sure I put it back correctly?

I believe the halfshafts don't matter, only the driveshaft.

As far as I know the differential yoke is Not part of the balancing system. That would be tough to do, balance both.

However, the yoke off of the transmission supposedly is included during the spin balance on a machine.

If you did not crayon reference mark the trans yoke to driveshaft before disassembly, it's too late now.

mine had a yellow paint mark at differential.. that said , i suggest for the money to have the assembly balanced. In my case the yoke into the transmission was bad and they could not balance..
thread schooling for me here.. and other vibration fixes

The stock driveshaft does not have to be "clocked". Also, it can be reversed, front to back, with no problem.

That would be great if it doesn't matter. If not, I suppose I have a 50/50 shot.

The stock shafts were balanced with the transmission yoke installed and the differential end heavy (or light, I don't know) side was marked and then on the diff yoke there was a mark. They were supposed to align those two marks on assembly so I guess it was heavy side on one aligned with the light side of the other.
To the best of my knowledge (what little is left) the halfshafts were not balanced.
If you've lose orientation of the front yoke you have a 25% chance of getting it back in where it was originally

OK, I think I misunderstood. The transmission yoke is still attached to the driveshaft, I have so far only removed it from the differential. If that's the case, I can still mark the orientation of the trans yoke before removing the u-joint and still be good, correct?

That is correct. Usually, a machinist yellow crayon will suffice with a line drawn on both parts.
However, if the entire assembly is to be degreased / sandblasted / painted then another type of refence mark will be needed.
Machinist punch. Or even a chisel mark.

BKBroiler post #4, pointed out that the driveshaft can be installed either end fore or aft.
Just keep in mind that when you put it in Drive, it may be in Reverse. And vise-versa.

would the odometer go backwards too?

not sure where OP is but when done having it balanced is not that expensive.. with transmission yoke attached.
