Mine is a 1980 and the turn signal won't flash on right side. Left is ok. I was wonder where the flasher is located. I see what looks like a flasher with a capacitor attached located on fuse box under left dash on firewall. Would this be the one, or is there another ? Thank you for any help and your time.
There is another. Listen for the click. You say it works on one side. So then it clicks. On my 77 it's behind the map pocket. The one on the fuse panel is for the 4 way flashers. You have one of those bubble back cars that does not have a map pocket. Best quess then is it's behind the glove box Area. But that really is a total guess. Listen for the click.
However, if it flashes on one side, then the flasher is likely good. It won't flash, doesn't flash if one or more bulbs are not lighting up. I would check ALL of the bulbs first !
Strange. It's a bi-metal spring in a little aluminium cup.
when current flows through the bi-metal spring. It heats up. Causing it to distort and lift off a contact. this breaks the circuit of course and just as quickly it cools and flips back reconnecting the circuit. This is the click, click noise you can hear. This little bi-metal spring flipping back and forth. If it's working on one side there is obviously enough current load on that side to heat the spring and cause it to open. If it's not opening on the other side clearly there is less current load on that side. So, all bulbs including the side markers are lighting up? All bulbs are the correct bulbs? And yes those flasher cans are very inexpensive. So what can it hurt to try. On 77 and earlier cars the turn signal flasher is behind the passengers side dash pad, lower right corner as your looking at it from the seat. Get it clicking by putting on the signals on the side that works and follow the sound.
Thanks for the help but that was the first thing I checked. All are good.
just making sure - there are 6 flashing lights and 2 steady lights (at least for my '82). i dont think the steady lights use the flahser but the 6 lights will. also check for corrosion on the sockets - you may want to check with a dMM as i believe if a line is broken going to the bulb, it may not flash either. Turn on your hazards and make sure they all light up.
Turned out it was a bad flasher. New one is a lot quieter which I don't particular care for but at least it is now working. Thank you for your thoughts, time and help.
