Default Stupid Hubcap question

So I popped off the left front wheel to check on something, and when I tried to get the hubcap back on, it won't all "catch". When I tap on the left side, the right side pops out, then when I tap on the right side, the left pops out. The cap does not look "bent", but I can't get it to fully seat. What am I doing wrong?

Take off the cap and look carefully at the inner wheel where it seats.
You'll notice that there are 2 "nubs" sticking up on one side of the wheel and only 1 "nub" on the other side.
Seat/slide the bottom of your cap on the 2 nubs first then simply push down on the single nub side and it should easily pop into place.
In the photo I've circled the "nubs" which are barely visible but you'll easily be able to see / feel them on your wheel.

Should work, I've been doing it that way for years, I do use a rubber mallet to accomplish that.

Your top hats look to be reproductions. Do all the others look the same? Do all the other top hats stay on ok? You know how it goes with reproduction parts.

Rubber mallet works great on the trim rings as well.
