I'm working on my son's 69 convertible with him replacing the windshield header frame and I have all the new metal placed ready to weld in. When I lowered the soft top to the frame I realized the windlace was not attached. We found it in one of may boxes that came with the car. My question is I know it's supposed to be stapled in place, but there is nothing there just the metal of the frame. What does the windlace get stapled to? and can it be replaced? See pic I highlighted the missing item.
Sorry...I have a '68/may be different. I may have a pic of the install. Yes...there is a soft strip that fits into the bow for the canvs to be stapled to/////poor quality pic below...you can get a glimpse of the soft matrial with the top stapled to iy.
I also painted ALL staples with rustproof flexible paint to prevent the staples from rusting over the years.
NOTE: the corners of the canvas reqired extra black adhesive and staples to get a flat non=bulky fit. (you can see the unglued unstapled puckered canvas at the top-right of the pic.
YOU ALSO want the top stapled in place about 1/2"+ from seating against the stainless bow so that onve the clamps are locked in place the entire canvas will be nice, tight, and smooth.
