I have a fuse neck and it's hard for me to twist around and was considering putting a stereo or something in my car with a back up camera so as to aid me seeing.
-A 1973 Corvette and I can't figure out where I would put a back up camera or if there's one that slides out for when you're in a back up situation that you could slide it out of the stereo and use it only when needed. Has anyone here found a good way to do that?
on my C6 the small camera mounts just above the license plate. You really don't even notice it. And as much as I hate to admit it, it really does help in that car. As for the double din head unit I am not sure what you needd to do. I have seen some people with something that goes in replacement of the inside rear view mirror. Let us know what you end up doing.
I know there's a lot of options. I just wanna clean installing one that works well.
For a four level neck fusion it's almost a requirement that I still love my old cars. I wanna keep driving them.

You can get a back up camera that will display on your cell phone. I've seen one but haven't looked for one myself, shouldn't be too hard to find.
My C8 projects the rear scene onto the rear view mirror. If I had limited mobility this would be the most natural and normal way to see behind. Looking at a phone would seem to me to take the normal driver situational awareness away. Maybe positional is a better modifier here. The camera on my new car is at the back of the roof so it provides a rear view similar to what my head might when I turned around, only better. On my 69 T-top coupe that option would be off the table. The next best would be to repurpose my alarm key over the license plate which I think would give me a good wide angle view with still reasonable driver representative accuracy. Much lower and I wouldn't be able to put myself in the picture being seen. You could drill a camera hole there it wouldn't look all that out of place.
My thoughts with some C8 experience. Work the problem from your needs, not convenience.

I bought one of these but have not done anything other than install the "mirror" part. Even that gave me a much better view to the rear since it is larger. I'll get around to wiring up the backup camera one of these days. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1608519324

I am currently restoring my Dad's 73. We are putting both a front and rear cameras as he is not as tall as he would like. we got a single din radio that has a double din screen that is moveable up and down as well as sideways. It looks as if when in the lowest position all gauges are visible and it actually blends in well. I will get pics this evening. It did come with the cameras with choice of plate frame mount or drill. we are going to drill above plate to make it more out of the way. the link shows the picture of the back of the radio with video input and "back sight" (rear camera).
if you check around you can find a backup camera that is incorporated in a license plate frame. all you need to do with it is to run wiring which can be routed out through the license plate light if you don 't wish to drill holes anywhere, and put on the frame. the other end of the cable routes through the car to the dash area. most of the ones i have seen include a small wired remote monitor for the dash or wherever you want to put it. beats having to keep you phone out and mounted someplace and hope that you can get a signal from the camera.
I’m also thinking a camera would be nice to have somewhere under the nose for those tight parking situations. These long low front ends make it hard to tell when you are about to hit something.
Furrion makes several different wireless cameras for rv’s.
The cameras themselves are really nice and they have up 7” screens that you can mount anywhere with a suction cup mount.
The cameras are small but the mounting platform for the rear on an rv is pretty big.
I believe you can buy the screens and suction cup mounts separately.
The easiest way to go is get a kit with a good camera that mounts above the license plate ( plenty of room), and the kit includes a lcd screen built into the interior rear view mirror. I added the Chevy version on my 2010 Camaro as they didn’t have then until 2011. The whole system is powered off your backup lights (connect at tranny) search Amazon and other part suppliers. You can run the wire to the mirror along the inside molding above the windshield. You will have to modify the way that the mirror attaches, but this seems a lot easier that pulling the center gauge cluster unless you enjoy “pain & suffering.”
I’ve done both on diff cars but on my 78 it’s rear backup only. Radio swap with 8” floating screen for reverse camera. I’m running a mirror video screen which is a front 2k dash came and rear dash cam but also allows the review mirror to be a live video for front, rear or both. The rear camera is at the top of the back window and gives you a better view than looking through the mirror and window regularly. You can swap the screen to change views and does GPS and speed etc.
mirror isn’t on in this pic. It times out after a while but can be reactivated by touching it.
this is the Split View, just swipe the mirror
screen and it will go full picture front or rear.

I guess the rear view mirror might be the way to go. I want it to look nice and not suctioned onto the windshield. I would prefer it looked similar to the mounting of the original mirror.
Any suggestions?

the mirror I posted clamps onto the original mirror. They are oversized and the front camera pokes out the bottom left (driver side on the windshield side) no suction mount. Cables are run to rear camera, GPS module and power/ground
