Default C3 gear box sensor question

1971 Chevy Corvette. Four speed manual. 350 engine.

Can anyone tell me what this electrical connector that broke off of it's sensor(?) does? It's on the driver's side of the manual gearbox near the shift linkages. It's not the backup light switch. That is visible at the bottom side of the image. I tried shoving the electrical connector back on to the sensor(?) but I think it's broke. What does it do? Any link to buy a new one? Thanks.

I would remove the entire Transmission Controlled Spark system. Won't hurt a thing. Actually, it will probably run better without it.

And, when removed, run distributor advance can directly to manifold vacuum. "Timed" / "ported" vacuum was an EPA thing. It did not provide benefit to the engine in any way.

This is false. Google images of old vintage carburetors from the 40's and 50's and study those images. You will find most if not all carburetors of that era were equipped with ported vacuum ports for advance. This is long before air pollution was a thing. Both my Corvette and my 408 Cuda use ported vacuum advance.
