redo tha t top headliners.. drivers side went very well.. cleaned, scuffed, paint.. came out very nice.. completely cured ina coupla days.. passenger side not so much.. exact same procedure used BUT it has been over a week and paint still VERY TACKY??? both done with same procedure, materials and under same environment???... anyone have any idea as to what caused this?.. may end up stripping and starting over but want to avoid same results....
Hello,
If the second/third coat is applied too soon after the previous coat it may remain tacky.
The only remedy then is to remove the whole mess and start over.
Regards.....

I have had great results with the dye’s. Spray paint does not seem to result in proper sheens and I think there are flex agents in the dye’s that (if prepped properly) will resist the flaking you may get from spray paints.
One of the previous owners apparently spray painted the seat backs in mine. While it has held up, the sheen is undesirable.
Interior: Use the dye, not paint.
Just before you shoot the dye, shoot a light coat of straight lacquer thinner.
Takes only seconds to Let that thinner flash off; then immediately follow with your dye. Yup, need Two good clean cups. (no rattle cans)
I would wash several times with Dawn dishwashing liquid being careful not soak the backside paperboard (if original). You can also spray a vinyl plastic prep which should help.
If some past caring owner wetted it down with Armour all that would explain a lot and so require a lot of cleaning.
update.. they are original with a really hard surface... a little acetone and lotta rubbin' they were completely striped of tha "still wet" paint.. a little sun bath this afternoon and they are almost ready for a redo... a little scoff up and i think they will be jus fine.. thanks guys..............
