I noted that the holes for the side emblems (maybe others as well) have small metal inserts in them. Can anyone tell me where to get new ones as I will probably pull them out for final sanding before paint. I'm sure they are probably not necessary but may help hold the emblems in place. I have not found them in the AIM or online anywhere. thanks emblem holes
Hello,
Typically I believe the holes for the STINGRAY script didn't have any 'inserts'.
The trim was secured in variously ways depending on the year of the car.
Speed nuts.....adhesive.....?
Regards....
Yes they were held in place with speed nuts, but if you look at the holes in the picture there is some kind of small metal insert in the fiberglass holes (or that is what it seems to be, I haven't pulled one out yet).
The inserts are called barrel clips and were used by body shops to reattach moldings and emblems. Especially handy were there was no or limited access to the backside to attach a nut or speed nut. A quick google search looks like they are still available.

If the original mounting hole has become enlarged, you can insert a "barrel clip." to give the pointed part of a car emblem a snug fit.
Barrel clips are sold by any major automotive supply house.
Bring a sample to get the correct size.
My 71 had no inserts.
Mine were attached with adhesive as you can see from the photos.
I bought new emblems and I had to massage them in place (bend them to fit the contours of the body).
Also the holes didn't align properly with new emblems "retainers".
I used just a dab of adhesive on the back for attaching the new emblems.
