Default Brush-on GM blue engine paint?

I can easily find rattle cans of the Duplicolor de1608 GM blue, but I’m not having luck finding a brush-on pint/quart can. Does such a thing exist? POR-15 makes a “Chevrolet Blue” which is not what I need for my 1978. I need the GM blue. POR-15 also makes a “Pontiac Light Blue” which kind of looks close?

Thank you, but I’m pretty sure that’s the Chevrolet blue rather than the GM blue for my ‘78. I’m wanting to repaint the front of the engine block while it’s still in place while I have the timing cover and other various bits off. Was hoping for a brush-on so I wouldn’t have to mask and worry about overspray.

You could buy the spray can and spray it into a cup for brushing. Best to wear gloves when decanting -- AMHIKT!

I came across KBS coatings which sells pint cans of engine colors – look at the GM Corp Blue - very similar to the Pontiac Blue:

Chevy blue is older, more like a gray. GM corporate blue is what they were using in the 70's.

Option: Look for a brushable can of "Larkspur Blue".

Any autobody paint shop could mix you up a pint of single-stage urethane paint which is so close as to be indistinguishable. Just take a sample. They have card-decks with thousands of colors... It'll hold up 5x better too. But will cost more, esp if you have to buy an activator.

Consider use of an airbrush along with masks to cover unrelated engine items. I did this with my 78, using an airbrush and quite pleased with outcome. I did have many components removed but when I got underneath, block still in car, I was able to controle where I airbrushed.

Looks great to this day!

So this has been a curious situation. I think I've come to the conclusion that my oil pan was painted a different shade of blue than the engine and other components. When I got my spray can of Duplicolor General Motors Blue 1608, I did a test and it matched perfectly to the oil pan which I had by itself in my basement at the time. I just assumed that the oil pan blue was the same as the blue on everything else in my '78. When I got the pint of KBS 60339 GM Corporate Blue, it was more of a gray but matched the engine and everything else. Strange. This car is a 28,000 mile survivor that's been virtually untouched over the years, so I'm 99.999% sure that the oil pan was original to the car.

The left side of the washer shows the KBS GM Corporate Blue 60339 and right is the Duplicolor 1608 General Motors Blue.

On my screen, the lighter blue looks right to me. JMO.

The darker blue looks too saturated to me. YRMV

Is this your engine? What brand did you use? I’d love to find that blue in a spray can.

Things are getting a bit silly now.

I ordered up a spray can of the Seymour GM Blue (en-67) hoping it would match the KBS, but it did not. I called KBS today and they said they do not make GM Corporate Blue 60339 in a spray can. Maybe the Duplicolor 1609 Chevrolet Blue is what I want, but I suspect that is the blue from the ‘50s (the blue flame C1 engine).

The Duplicilor
The Duplicilor "Corporate Blue" DE1608 for C3's from the late '70's can on the left is what I used. The "Chevy Blue" DE1609 on the right was not good. Its an older color that was way off. Blue Flame is what comes to mind for me as well.

Thanks! That helps a lot. I won’t bother with trying 1609. If you used 1608 on your engine in the photos, then I wonder if they changed formulations or something. The 1608 I used just doesn’t look right. The KBS is a near exact match.
