In process of installing driver's side dash with new harness, bulbs and new/reconditioned tach and speedo cables along with hoses. I had mounted the fuse panel first and wrapped cable across top of panel and struggling to get it all to fit in place. The top screws are in but the rest is not going into place very easily. I am coming to the conclusion that I should wrap the main cable across the top with bulbs in place, mount the panel and THEN mount the fuse box in place. That may be the only way to get the harness to lay against the back of the panel in a way that will let it fit in place. The duct, hood latch and other items are out so I know the location of tach/speedo cables are good and not the problem. It seems wherever the cable is laying on top back of the panel it is not in the correct place and won't fit in all the way.
Should the fuse box be after the left panel? I'll check other posts more as well.
thanks

I should add the panel is in one piece with both tach, speedo and light switch in place so trying to insert the whole assembly at once. The steering column is also out.

Reason: aded info
There should be plenty of room running the harness like the factory did above Speedo/Tach
One thing to look at is the Courtesy Light-Tach reset cable bracket.
When I installed a new lower dash pad assembly in my 77 the hood release cable was hitting the bracket...
I couldn't figure out why my lower left side screw was not aligning with the mounting bracket on the inner front door jam...
Once I saw what was hitting everything fell into place...
Pretty close Alan, I had the pillar to column brace turned 180 degrees and interfering with back of speedo side of dash. It was a stupid mistake but i am relieved I found it! See pic below.
DON’T forget the speedometer RESET Cable / ****, like I did. With a convertible the brace makes the job more of a challenge. I didn’t route the reset cable correctly, and ended up somehow removing it. Now I have no way to reset the trip mileage,
