Hi all - been away for a while. I have a 1970 coupe with T-tops. My daughter is graduating from 8th grade and they do a little parade in cars to celebrate. I'm wondering if it's ok for her to sit on the back deck, let her legs/feet dangle inside the car, so she is facing forward (remove the rear window). Will that back deck be able to hold her with out causing damage? Or should I just make her sit in the seat? She prolly weighs 100 pounds? I hope you can visualize what I'm trying to describe.
I think that as long as she is sitting near the window opening (which it sounds like she will) and not further back by the gas filler, everything will be fine.
As an alternative, she could sit on the targa roof with the t-tops removed, her feet hanging down toward the seat. Be careful here and don't accelerate too hard or she could lose her balance and tumble backward. Many a parade queen has sat on the roof section with no issue.
I drove in a Christmas parade with the Mayor sitting on the top of my '80 Corvette with his feet dangling into the car. T-tops were off and he sat on a towell. No damage or issues. It was a fun day. Funny part was they had asked our Corvette club to provide the cars for the parade and they prepared laminated signs to show the names of the politicians that were riding in the cars....the signs all had magnets to attach them to the doors on our Corvettes.
Hello,
The instructions for the luggage rack installation indicates a load limit of 50 lbs.
But the rack is far back from where your daughter will be sitting.
With her sitting where you describe her weight will be on a much stronger area of the deck.
Regards ....
Lets see here. 8th grade she probably goes all of 85-90# it will be just fine. Hell you see pictures of people doing barn finds with more than that on them and everything is just fine. it's a car not a piece of Bone China no matter what some people think.
It'll be fine. These cars are stronger than most give them credit for. Plus that area is quite sturdy.
I've actually walked across the back of a few that were stacked deep in storage. Had to get to the other side of the building in the back corner, and the easiest way was across the cars. I'm 190lbs, and they were solid. Not that I'd recommend doing that to restored cars

just put a moving blanket on the paint and it will be fine....my hardtop has done more damage than your daughter is going to do...just be mindful of the speed and burnouts....
2005 acquired 1971 WBY roadster from a gent at Bethalto IL (near STL). At the time, he continued as teacher & coach at HS in Bethalto IL. Purchase was in-person. He and car had a long history participating in homecoming queen etc parades. He had quite an archive of supporting photos. So, plenty of split-tail debs graced what is now my deck. And I remain pleased w/ that car; thanks Don !
I'm kinda curious how she's going to get to the back deck to put her legs through the window... Is she going to contort and go through the window from inside? Curious minds...

Most likely going to use a crane to lower the kid in place.
