I've decided to go to duals with cats on my '75 and looking for good, hi flow converters. Saw some universal fit converters at Summit, made by Catco with a SS case. Opinions?
I put one of those summit catco's on my spare car (old cadillac). I like it. Fit was perfect. Car passed emissions. Picked up power and added 2-3 mpg. Now the old cat was the ancient pancake type and plugged up by 20 years of crud so anything would have been an improvement, but the catco is definitely getting the job done at $75.
Several of the late model header systems use Catco cats and they work very well. On a 400rwhp car we will only pick up about 5-10hp by removing the cats. Only better cat that I know of woult be Random Technology but they are pricey. Hope this helps.

.
It does, I am thinking of putting a cat back on my 89 Formula just to be a little more enviro friendly.
That's my plan anyway, Ganey's exhaust thread had some dyno numbers showing big performance increases going from old cat to new highflow cat. I just can't stand the thought of losing even a little power if I can prevent it.
My 81 exhaust is still factory stock. Big old pancake style cat Converter. Car only has 2k on it so it should not be clogged up too bad. Would I see a big difference with a high flow cat? Also would it be possible to put the factory one back on once or twice a year for NCRS judging ?
will running these as dual cats make any difference on the 'environmental' end? e.g. too much catalytic for the flowrate? (obviously it will result in better performance!)
Tim: Yes, it will make a big difference. Dyno testing from back around then showed the pancakes robbing 40-50 hp on a 250 hp engine. A modern hi-flow is more on the order of 5 hp on the same engine.
I had no ideal it was that much of a HP thief. Is the switch a nuts and bolts kinda thing?
Dunno. The car I switched it out on was not a Vette. Look through the catco listings on summits webpage and see if they have a direct replacement. For my Caddy they did have a direct replacement listed and it was just a matter of pulling the old one and bolting the new one in.

Hey Tim,
I'm new to the forum here. I have an '81 also. I had true duals custom bent with twin Catco converters. When I bought the car, it originally had the 2-1-2 system. No cat though, but instead a "test pipe" with the proper 4 bolt hole flanges. It's just sitting around collecting dust. If your interested in it, let me know.
If you are going to switch the cat. on and off, you'll need to "stockpile" some gaskets for the pipe flanges. lol.

I need the Test Pipe is Buffalo Dude does not want it.
I'm going with duals as '75s no longer need inspection in the great state of California (but just to be environmentally conscious, I'll stick a couple cats in there. NO, NO, catalytic CONVERTERS, not felines

bs82vette,
If you want it. It's $35.00 total. S+H included. It's yours. Let me know.
If you want pics first, let me know. I'll take a couple and send them to you.

I too used a pair of these when I built my 77. Illinois tests..so I had to have em. Very pleased...but I went directly through the manufacturer and saved some $$.
