I'm not going to get rid of my Vette, but I really like the new Pontiac Solstice. So far, all the car mags have absolutely raved about the driving characteristics of the test mules. Plus, they start at only $19k and top out at just above $24k fully loaded. I LOVE this car in all black, like the one they were showing at the NAIAS. The interior is GORGEOUS. The only thing is, should I wait a year for the supercharged version (the '07 model year will have an optional supercharger)??? Here are some pics of the actual production model...pretty sweet. I can't believe this car is ony $20k?!?!?
My daughter (14.5 years) told me that since I have promised my 72 vert to my son (17) when he is in his 20's, I should buy her one of these for her 16th bday. I'm with you, that car is very and look fwd to taking it out for a test drive.
Try finding one for MSRP when they come out. Dealers will tack on every option plus a "dealer availability surcharge" - meaning they have one. After a year or so things will quiet down and you will be able to get one for a reasonable price.
Eh...they both look like the bastid child of an Audi TT and an MR2.

That's the "old" Sky concept. The actual Saturn Sky production car is much nicer (kinda' different having a production car that's nice than a concept car), here are some pic's:

Just what i was thinking, let the first ruch quiet down and the price will get back to reality, kinda like buying a Barrett Jackson.
It's a 4 cyl ??? Well, then I'm curious how it compares to the Miata... I had one and it was so much fun.... don't need a lot of HP to get the little 2100lbs car moving....
and yes, for 20K you can get a nice '98 or '99 C5.........
I like both the Solstice and Sky. I had a Grand Am GT a few years ago with the 170hp DOHC and 5 speed manual. It was a lot of fun!! I always thought, "If they would only build a 2 seater roadster with this engine and tranny!" Now they finally have.
Solstice and Sky will both have the 170hp, 2.4L Ecotec and, in case there are those who are not aware of this...both are rear wheel drive.
The supercharged version will likely come from the current 2.0L 205hp being used in the Saturn ION Quad Coupe Redline and the new Chevy Cobalt SS.
As to "just get a C5..." Well, these cars are worlds apart. I doubt many will be contemplating "Well, I just don't know...a small, brisk, inexpensive flingable sports car or a big-chested, high-horsepower, status symbol..."

Both are two seaters, both are convertibles, both are more a toy than a daily driver.... The Soltice looks like a great car but $25K with some extras - a 6 year old C5 convertible is in that price range.... if I were to spend somewhere between 25-30K for a toy I'd probably choose the Vette... or a used Miata for $10K ....
