Look I started looking for a vette when I was in 8th grade i saved my money and took my time. I boulght my 75 my sophmore year, and the only thing rusty was the radiator bracket(easily replaced), for $5000. Take your time and dont settle for rust. Warning: im up to $15,000 now and still not finished. Maybe look for a finished later c3 between $7500 and $10000, if you not into restoring it and paying alot.

Those cars are probably sitting there like that for a reason-everyone else that has looked at 'em probably said the same thing-too much money to put into them than they'd ever be worth. Save your money for a solid one that maybe needs cosmetics.

A lot depends on how much rust there is. If its only surface rust it could be cleaned up, but if parts of the frame or bird cage are gone don't even think about it.

As far as a new engine, the LS's are not drop-ins; there is a LOT of fabrication required. I think one of the Corvette magazines started a series of artcles on this swap a few years back. I don't think they ever finished it.

Okay, I was 6'4" in 8th grade and I haven't grown since. Just because you were a little boy then doesn't mean everyone else was.

Perhaps he got some money through inheritance, or maybe he has had a few jobs. When I was 13 I had a paper route. I kept it until I was 16 then I got a job at the movie theatre I still work for (I'm now 20). I had a few thousand dollars saved by the time I was a high school freshman. By the time I found a Corvette that I wanted I was 17 years old. It was summer between my Junior and Senior year. I had $9k saved up and bought my Vette with cash. I went to school full time and worked as many hours as a minor could put in a week (26 for a full school week, 32 for a partial school week and unlimited for a week without school). Luckily my worth ethic paid off as I was promoted to asst manager after only working there for 11 months. The job paid pretty poorly, still does (I work full time and get $7.25/hr as a freaking manager), but I like it, and I can do my school work at work as I just hit start every couple of hours. But anyways, if you really want a Corvette, take your time and try to find a good one. If you don't have any tools, expect to have to shell out a bit for tools. If you cannot buy it straight cash, no loans, you're not ready to own a Corvette. The payments and interest are not something you want to have. Also, you have to buy yourself a daily driver and insure that before you can get a Corvette. It is easier for a young person to do this is Wisconsin as insurance is cheap and not even required, but elsewhere I can see it being a problem for a minor to pay insurance and everything on two vehicles. Keep in mind that you need to go to college after high school. College is expensive. Even though right now you say that you'll keep costs down by living at home, once you get to that age, you won't. You may live at home your first year, maybe two, then you'll get out of the house. Expect to pay between 5 and 10 grand a year on school depended on where you go. Now you've got food, rent, and living expenses, about $400/mo. Figure out how much money you can make in a year, how much you'll have to spend, and make sure you live a cushion so you can enjoy those college years. The time to get loans are in college, so if you can only figure on paying for living and having loans for the schooling, do that calculation. The last thing you want to do is buy a Corvette, drive it for a few years in high school, then sell it to have money for college and be searching for another after you graduate. I'm a cheap guy. I pick pennies up off the sidewalk. I have a good amount of cash saved up and right now I break even with what I make and what I spend for school and living, approximately. It is hard to go to school full time and work full time. When I transfer to another school to finish my engineering degree, I'm not going to get a job and just live off savings and get a few loans. I'll need all my time to focus on school. If you graduate it'll take but a few months to pay off the loans as you should have a great job.

Basically, you need to figure out your finances for the next 8 years and make sure you don't force yourself into a position where you have to work so much that it effects your schoolwork.

The only thing worth going into debt for at your age is your college education. No car is worth going into debt.

I do agree, don't buy it. Not unless a good get his hands greasy corvette owner looks at it and approves it, or you wake up from your dream ;-)

You have no time to futz-around attempting to support a Vette-rebuild as a 9th grader. Your priority should be to get good grades and a high SAT score and then maybe a conservative college or tradeschool.

There's plenty of time to rebuild a Vette after you pay your "education dues". Set your priorities right and you won't be working at Burger King later.

Re: Information on owning a Z06

----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, what's up all Z06 owners.
My name is Eric and I plan on buying myself a Z06 within a year or two.
I'm only 14 right now (turning 15 on April 7th) so I don't really have a job but I've been saving my lunch money(25 per week) and money I get from doing some homework and reports for a friend (I get paid atleast 200 per week and yes its true).

I need some information on owning a Z06 like:

how much it will cost me to buy a used 2004 model (will the price go down or up lol).

The cost of taking care of a Z06.

The insurance cost for an 18 yrs old kid.

PS, Not only do I want to own this car because I love it better than any other car but I want it to be able to smoke those Cobras and 350Z with the huge wing and bodykit - they show off next to my high school right when I get out, it sickens me, they think they're the fastest thing out there

I'm 19...And to be honest I'm too young for a C3 but I didn't buy it 'cause I want a cool 'fast car'. I bought it because for 2 years all I dreamed about is vettes, couldn't even think about naked girls unless a vette was there too

Anyway even if you fix it, you're gonna need alot of money to MAINTAIN it. But hey, if you got money, and alot of time go for it It's one of the best things ever!

Yeah..good luck with the insurance..my 16 y/o nephew..had his first car less than a week and wrecked it...was a neon, so no great loss..then mom and dad went and bought a 2002, I believe, Toyota extended cab..safer than neon. Well needless to say the insurance went from 200 bucks for mom/dad..to 800 bucks/ month for mom/dad/ and new driving son. Just heard from my wife a day ago..nephew lent out his truck to a "friend" and guess what ..he did a slow roll into someone's back end...doh! Now..I guess the insurance will go from 800 bucks a month to God knows what..??? Insurance is already contimplating dropping jr...will see what happens. Hope our young reader is reading this... this is a Toyota pick up truck..costing mom/dad/jr...over 9600 bones a year..also included are mom/dads bmw x5 and lincoln navigator..but those remember were just running at 200 bones / month. THIS IS NOT EVEN A SPORTS CAR!!!! DING DING DING! Well enough of the rant..good luck bro..you will need it! Joe!
