when the number of members was small, it made sense to have one forum. Back then the majority wanted to keep one forum.

that was then....this is now

1. the number of members has been growing at a rapid pace
2. too much traffic for one forum to deal with.

some here would have this section become "like a bar" someone said. You OT lovers should go have your jollies over there. That is not the purpose of THIS forum as much as some of you would like to make this the second OT section.

The number of posts here is only second to OT and just too much to deal with for NORMAL posters.

why do i sound like a kid. I have made reasonable and logical arguments while a hand full of "OT lovers" continue to ridicule me.

Probably the most valid point made yet. I certainly can't see how a split would hurt our C3 Forum, in fact, I think that everyone will look at the same things they always did but do it in a way which makes more sense. Sometimes our time is limited and you want to go straight to a subject. Other times I want to look at a little of everything. Moreover, the general catagories such as autocrossing, factory restoration etc. really are a pain because I only want to read about C3's and I prefer chatting with those who have C3's.

I just ran across another Corvette forum by accident and this is how the C3 section was split up. It was pretty easy to find whatever I wanted to find.

C3 General
C3 Technical
C3 Auto-Crossing
C3 Drag racing
C3 Customs
C3 Models and Die-Cast
C3 Parts for Sale/Wanted
C3’s For Sale/Wanted
C3 Pictures
C3 Videos

I'm still voting for the following catagories

1. C3 Parts for sale/free
2. C3 Parts wanted
3. C3 Vettes for sale/wanted
4. C3 Technical chat/OEM
5. C3 Performance/Upgrades/Racing
6. C3 General/Introductions/OT

Default C3's account for the majority of Corvetes produced

I thought I'd do some research on total number of vehicles produced for a given body style. I was interested to see which body style best pontentially represented the majority of Corvette owners and therefore which of the forums should expect to see the most total traffic. My thought was that whichever possessed the greatest potential for traffic probably required the most diversification in order to keep everything easy to navigate. Here are the results:

C1 = 53-62 (10 year production) 69,015 units
C2 = 63-67 (5 year production) 117,966 units
C3 = 68-82 (15 years production) 542,861 units
C4 = 84-96 (13 years production) 358,180 units
C5 = 97-04 (8 years production) 249,182 units (Approximate)
C6 = 05- ( >1 year production) ?

Given the numbers it appears that the C3 exceeded C4 (the next highest production) by some 184,681 units, yet, the C4, C5 & C6 forums are organized far better for the total number of those potentially viewing those forums. All things being equal including % of deceased Vettes for a given body style and EVEN if you were to deduct the 184,681 surplus C3's I have a hard time understanding why the C3 section is not at least equal to that of it's lesser produced siblings.

I know change is difficult ( I hate it in general myself) but I do not see a split as a loss. I prefer to look at it as an improvement of what we all know is the best Corvette related forum on the internet. I say give it a try (we can always change it back) and see how we like it and how it affects forum traffic. Were getting bigger and bigger guys and that's a good thing for everyone including our sponsors.

If anything is going to hurt us, it is the heated disagreements, name calling and the bad feelings that result from debating this topic. When I purchased my Corvette I realized almost immediately I belonged to an extended family. I've had several makes and models and still do but there are no other people like Corvette people. So.....lets mend some fences and try not to be afraid to take that first step toward change (we'll get through it together).

STW!

Default Forum stats

Hello again!

I did a little more research and thought this was important. Here are the Corvette Forum stats with regard to total posts by section

C1/C2 158,988 Posts
C3 883,024 Posts
C4 1,335,189 Posts
C5 1,444,965 Posts

I did a bit of looking around when I totaled the scores in order to try to explain the disparity between number of cars produced and total number of posts. Here's what I found most notable

1. That C3 owners frequent the GENERAL section which includes topics such as factory correct, engine mods, autocross & racing. Since the C4, C5 & C6 owners have similar topics in their sections, they don't have the same need to frequent this area.

2. That it appears that a large number of C3 owners visit the C5 & C6 sections to get the latest on the new cars.

3. That the separation of topics in the C4, C5 & C6 sections appear to facilitate posting. The threads are much easier to follow and generate a significant number of replies. simply said, the topics do not get buried as quicky.

Statisticly & sociologicaly this is really an interesting topic.

that is EXACTLY what has happened here...a blind person could see that...
its always the same 5 or 6 crybabies that will not accept defeat just keep hammering away at us until most of us are just beaten into submission and want it to stop...
hell...i even changed my vote just to stop these clowns from repeating this post over and over every two months...
i feel like the man on the whipping post...id agree on just about anything to get this to stop and i think that this poll reflects that sentiment...

and what is this flaming Cali???
one of our best and most liked members here...???

lets just switch it once and for all so the members who are interested in turbo-ing and such can have a place to go...
like most of us want to do crap like that to our C3's

it amazes me that the same people that are too lazy to flip a page are working so hard to get their little tech section where they can talk about doing stuff to our cars that most of us wouldnt do in a million years anyway!!!

I SAY SWITCH IT NOW AND STOP THIS BROW BEATING THAT MOST OF US HAVE ENDURED FROM THESE 5 OR 6 GUYS!!!!

SPLIT IT...SPLIT IT....SPLIT IT...
LETS GET ON WITH C3 FORUM LIFE...!!!

BTW I think the mods and Troy should not waste their time on working on spliting the C3 forum up right now, the search function really needs attention and when fixed that should reduce the number of rundant posts that we are seeing right now.

It amazes me how much emotion is expressed in this matter. It reminds me of my late wife. She would spend a dollar's worth of emotion on a ten cent item. Life will go on and what happens in the world will not change if the forum splits or remains as is. People in general do not like change. They want the things the way they had yesterday and today. Unfortuantely things change and most times it's better. A quick example is the computer you are using. Most people hated it when Windows 95 came out to replace Windows 3.1. We now have Windows XP and very,very few computer users would say the wish they could still use the old Windows. If the forum splits, don't automatically start to complain about it. Continue to use the forum and I think you'll eventually start to see the benefits.

"cry babies, clowns and lazy"

Geez....here we go again.

Hey SIGNGUY...want to RE-post your apology you already made once in this thread you just can't resist returning to?
You must have a very large opening to speak out of, since you keep inserting your foot into it so often.

Name-calling is the last resort of a defeated verbal battle and a sign that the opponent has won his point. Thanks for conceding victory SIGNGUY

Victory !!!! Sweet !!!!
Can we have a parade ??
This is like Bush calling victory in Iraq, but the death toll accelerates.
However, I find this interchange much more entertaining - more like a meaningless video game.

Thanks for calling us who are for the split all those things, I know you also mean me because of the turbo comment..you know what..why don't you just go figure out your own stuff in the future...don't expect an answer to any of your questions from us whiners...loosers...crybabies... you certainly do not want to be associated with people as pathetic as us right???
