Navigation system in your C3?
Does anyone have a Navigation in their C3? Or an in-dash DVD player? I've heard that is it hard to see because our dash is so low and the visibility isn't great. I'd like to hear it from someone's 1st hand experience.

When I'm out there I care not where I am, just so I make it home on one tank of gas.

Yeah, i can understand wanting a classic car and staying away from everyday life...but i like the fusion of old and new.

The real convenience of a nav system in a c3 would probably be the ability to find the next gas station.... Might also want to get OnStar.

A pocket GPS, a fold up map, and my cell phone (if I can't fix things). It's a lot cheaper and I have to have the phone for work.
Seriously, if I could get a readable display in my 82 I'd probably have the diagnostic and the TBI tuning data on it all the time.

Toured the country 2 1/2 years ago in our 78', mostly two lanes,7000 miles and just had the Rand McNally.Funny thing was,we only used it to find senenic highways.Sure is hard seeing those little red dots. heh.
Still have the 8 track in the dash backed up by a small cheap boom box from Walmart back with the duffle bags.Lets see,what else.......
Oh yeah !! Forgot the little plugs in the foot wells,and soaked the carpet during a heavy rainstorm............Tech tip: Run Dry.

Why need a DVD player in a Shark with those beautyfull big fenders and the hood scoop. Take the roof off and your the movie itself everyone is looking at you so your the star and the movie never ends.

Yeah, I have Rand McNally Atlas for road trips. Great navigation system and the data base never needs updating.
CD player? My engine noises are too sweet to consider that. Sorry.gARY

Instead of making fun of you I'll provide a real answer... It's not going to be cheap but our cars are easily modified to accept a standard DIN head unit through the use of an aftermarket bezel or taking a saw to your own bezel.
Mine looks like this...
That's the easy part. It looks like the cheapest unit i know of is a pioneer unit model Pioneer AVIC-N1. It fits in a standard din opening and has a 6.5" monitor which folds out and up. You can adjust the pitch of the monitor to get the best viewing angle too. It has a hideaway "brain" module that you can mount wherever you want. It also does the standard plays mp3's, cd's, cdr's, cdrw's, it can also watch dvd movies, and you can wire it to monitor various functions of the car too if you have the right sensors, rpm, mph etc.

I think the radio bezel is angled up enough to miss the shifter... My vette is apart so I cant exactly look. My biggest concern would be how deep the system is, I seem to remember alot of stuff directly behind my cd player...

I bought a Garmin IQue3600 about a year ago. 
It has a good GPS navigation and is a PDA. The portable mounting unit has little sandbags for a base so it can ride about anywhere. It plugs into the lighter to amplify the navigation voice and recharge. I move it from car to car as needed. It works well in the Vette with less steel body to block the signal.
