I have the Kenwood version of that flip up deck in my Crossfire. It sure makes for a more relaxed trip when no one has to navigate . I have been thinking of putting one in place of the upper vents on my 79. Box it in so it is flush with the front of the dash, and can flip up. I also like that it interrupts the stereo to give you directions.

I am curious why you just don't get a portable. I take mine into the house and program it with my laptop on trips w/ multiple addresses. You can take it with you in all of your vehicles, ( I have 4 ). On trips you don't need to learn the system in a rental. And you won't desecrate your vintage C3 with something that doesn't belong in it.

Because it puts itself away when I turn the key off. If I want, I can run into the gas station for a coke or whatever, and not have to take it with me or lock up the car. Oh and mine, is not a vintage car, it is my toy, to make into anything that fits my needs. I have owned vintage cars, they are a different kind of fun. This one is to drive and enjoy, not to worry about when I need to let it out of my sight. Well not worry to much.

That portable GPS is going to seem anything but cheap, when some idiot bust your window out to get to it. Just saying.

A little more custom but in the same area. I don't have any viewing problems.

I had my Garmin mounted up high on the windscreen for longer trips.

But then moved it down to the side of the console. Build a bracket that slips behind the front console wing and keeps it tucked up.

Easy to remove when not needed, which is most of the time.

Sorry don't have a picture of that with me.

Some of us weren't around 8 years ago, well not on this forum anyway , I hadn't considered this type of a head unit because I didn't think it would fit depth wise but now I'm considering it

Interesting design. Do you have any pictures of the dash under construction?

I would love to have a really nice looking custom bezel that was an exact replacement fit for the existing bezel which rearranged the gauges and left room for the big touchscreen Kenwood unit that is a radio with navigation, Bluetooth phone, and back-up camera. The Kenwood navigation is provided by Garmin (which I love) and looks very clean and simple.

The pop-up unit is nice but it blocks the gauges. Personally, I like to see my water temperature and oil pressure on a 40+ year-old car. BadBaron's custom install in cool but goes a little too far for my tastes.

I would like an aftermarket replacement bezel that looks like it could have been original and could be later removed and returned to original without too much trouble. I have seen this type of product for the Camaro and it looks awesome - like the car came that way from the dealership.

A lot of people have all original numbers matching vettes which is cool and I understand why they wouldn't want to add an aftermarket unit. Mine is that type of car which is why I would only want to add this feature if it could later be reversed. But I also drive my car weekly and would love a kicking touch screen stereo unit with navigation and Bluetooth phone set-up. Since my car is a convertible and I almost exclusively drive it with the top down my visibility is excellent and I don't really need the back-up camera feature, but that would be really cool in a coupe.

While many like to keep it all original, many don't. It is widely known that the corvette is one of, if not the, most frequently customized vehicles on the planet and it shouldn't be a surprise that many corvette owners would want to add touch screen navigation to their C3 vettes.

When my car is secured the Gps and for that matter Radar Detector
( MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE) are out of sight. I have been doing it this way for 30 years without a problem. The scenario you gave is running in for a Coke and no one would need to break anything. A $600 CD/GPS is going to be attractive to theives also and don't think for a minute that kids these days don't know the exact specs on one of these with just one glance. Anyway as I said to each his own and it is your car to do with as you please!

PS. The Gps is in the vette about 2% of the time, your mileage may vary
