Not meaning to hijack this thread but does anyone know how this front emblem is attached. I have an 80 but all the chome around the outline has worn off with time. It now looks like an 81 . I would like to replace it however I do not want to pull all the paint off from under it . Thanx Brent

I looked up those part numbers. 293013 doesn't find anything and 293066 brings up fuel door emblem.

My dad was thinking of scraping the chrome off the 80 emblem to make it look like the 81 emblem. How well did the chrome off the emblem wear off bams?

The catalog I have says on the front emblem, part number 293013, to inquire. Maybe call and ask? The only other thing I can think of is maybe E-BAY. I do wish you luck. Maybe you can paint the edges of an '80 emblem unstead of scrape? Just a suggestion.

'81 - black border. '80 - chrome border.

I scored a '81 NOS nose emblem on ebay for $30. Seller thought it was an '80 emblem. Man was he pi$$ed when he figured out his mistake. Looks really nice on my freshly painted car. And as far as I know...nobody is repro'ing them yet. Rear gas tank door emblems are no problem. If I can find the old nose emblem I will put it up for sale. It's driver quality condition.
Darryl

'81 Nose flags had 2 alignment nubs on the back and was adhered to the car via two face 3M type tape

80 front emblem has two small tabs, not sure what they hook to as they are threaded, not sure on the 81, tried to see it but can't, and I can't feel anything sticking thru.

Here are pics of 80 front vrs. 81 front. (80 is on top)

Now here is a pic of the 80 front vrs 81 gas emblem....considerable difference.

Hey Miz101 , It appears as though 25 years of general wear has removed the chrome edge very nicely. To me it looks as though it should be for a 81. Brent

I will give them a call in the moring and check if they have any. I checked ebay I didn't see any there. If I was to paint them does anyone have suggestions on what type of paint to use?

Is the V on the '81 wider or is it the black border that makes it look wider?

If you find the other '81 nose emblem let me know please.

Hey MsVetteMan (BTW, I've got some great friends that live in Madison, MS...and I live in Madison, AL...go figure...) any way, wanted to touch on your comment about the "V" being different on the two emblems.

It may be becasue one is a "reproduction" and not NOS. I saw this when I ordered a nose emblem for my '82. The reproductions were not even close when compared to what was on my car. I sent them back and tried another vender but got the same results.

Also, a couple of years back, I orderd the "cross-fire" badges for my car (unique to only the '82) but found they were on backorder. Tried every vendor I could find (and Ebay) for months but never found any. Was finally told that even the reproduction crowd wasn't making them anymore...supply and demand...only 25K '82s made.

Like Plato said, if I find some, especially NOS, I'm buying but I'd look real hard at repro stuff.

You may be right on! I don't even know if my 81's front emblem is the correct one. There is a definite differnce in the width of the V's......

The 80 I have may very well be a reproduction, as know one seems to want it, but it looks alot better than the one on my car!!
